• Majestic opens its first-ever store in Newark on the Maltings Retail Park
  • Shop will stock Majestic’s full range of more than 1,200 wines, plus beers, spirits and low and no alcohol alternatives
  • Customers can enjoy free tastings seven days a week and benefit from free click and collect and home delivery

Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has opened its latest store in Newark-on-Trent as it accelerates its bricks and mortar expansion.

The 2,900 sq ft shop has opened on the popular Maltings Retail Park. The store stocks the full Majestic range of more than 1,200 wines, plus beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, soft drinks and snacks.

Majestic’s experienced and qualified colleagues will host free wine tastings seven days a week from the in-store Tasting Counter, offering customers the opportunity to try a selection of wines before they buy, receive tasting notes and get expert advice.

Customers will be able to benefit from services including free glass hire for occasions such as

weddings and birthday parties, free click-and-collect within as little as four hours, and next-day delivery, with the store’s own van delivering orders directly to customers’ homes.

Majestic’s unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’ also allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in return for a replacement bottle of equivalent value.

Newark marks the second new store opening of Majestic’s 2023/24 financial year and its 205th store in the UK. Majestic plans to expand its bricks-and-mortar presence at a rate of one new shop per month, with new sites in Crouch End, Monmouth and Chippenham all due to open before Christmas as it doubles down on its growth strategy.

The accelerated expansion plan comes after Majestic arrived in Rugby last month and launched five new stores in 2022/23, opening locations in Haywards Heath, Godalming, Stafford, Preston and a smaller high-street format in Harpenden. All six stores are engaging with thousands of new shoppers from across the communities they now serve, and delivering to local pubs and restaurants through the Majestic Commercial B2B division.

Majestic Harpenden, which is less than half the size of the average Majestic store, has also

been nominated in the Game-Changing Store of the Year category at the Retail Gazette Awards 2023, following a flying start since opening in April.

The ambitious growth strategy underscores Majestic’s renewed focus on bricks-and-mortar

retail following its split from Naked Wines plc in 2019. Since then, following the reintroduction of former management and with the backing of owners Fortress Investment Group, Majestic has opened 12 new stores and returned to growth and stability, toasting its second-best Christmas trading period ever in 2022 and racking up a record market share.

Its on-trade arm, Majestic Commercial, has also celebrated a post-pandemic recovery, kicking off supply deals with more than 400 new bars, pubs, restaurants and competitive leisure venues during the 2022/23 financial year alone.

Majestic CEO John Colley said: “We have had our eyes on Newark for some time as part of our expansion plans and are delighted to finally be opening a store in the town. Everyone at Majestic is looking forward to serving the local community and bringing our award-winning wines and expert knowledge to the area.

We continue to be champions of experiential retail and are proud to be accelerating our pipeline of new store openings ahead of Christmas. We are hugely excited about becoming a part of even more communities across the UK in the coming months.”
