The Portman Estate and Moco Museum have welcomed the approval of planning consent from Westminster City Council on the submission to change the use of the recently completed development One Marble Arch on Oxford Street to accommodate a new modern and contemporary art museum for London. This comes after Moco Museum and The Portman Estate worked together to submit a joint application to Westminster City Council in August 2023.

Tom Knight, Portfolio Director at The Portman Estate, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Moco Museum to bring an exciting new leisure offer to The Portman Estate at One Marble Arch. The introduction of Moco will further enhance Marble Arch and Oxford Street; enlivening and adding to the already thriving arts and culture hub growing in this pocket of the West End.”

Kim and Lionel Logchies, Founders of Moco Museum, said: “It is incredibly exciting to have planning granted and is a big step forward to opening the doors of Moco Museum to the UK. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring Moco Museum to London’s West End, creating a new museum for art lovers across London to enjoy.”

Moco Museum is an independent museum with a wide range of inspiring modern, contemporary and digital immersive art. The site will become Moco Museum’s third location and its first in the UK, alongside Amsterdam’s Museumplein and Palacio Cervelló in Barcelona, having already welcomed over 4 million visitors. The London museum at One Marble Arch is due to open its doors in 2024. It will complement other nearby cultural attractions such as Frameless, the immersive art experience at 6 Marble Arch, and The Wallace Collection in Manchester Square.
