New West End Company is delighted to partner with the Royal Academy of Arts, for its eighth edition this summer of Art in Mayfair a striking public art installation by Honorary Royal Academician Anselm Kiefer, one of the most significant artists of our time. As part of this annual celebration of art and culture in London’s Mayfair district, Kiefer has been invited to create a series of flags that will adorn Bond Street from 16th June to 22nd July 2025. In a vivid tribute, the flags will showcase recent works by Kiefer inspired by Van Gogh’s iconic sunflower motif – bringing the influence of the Dutch master into the centre of London’s West End.
This year’s Art in Mayfair coincides with the Royal Academy’s much-anticipated landmark Kiefer/Van Gogh exhibition opening 28th June 2025, which explores the profound impact of Vincent van Gogh on Kiefer’s artistic practice. Bringing together these two visionary artists for the first time in the UK, this highly anticipated show will mark a major year for Kiefer, as he presents several exhibitions internationally in celebration of his extraordinary six-decade career.
The exhibition will include paintings and drawings by Van Gogh, on loan from the renowned Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, alongside paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Kiefer, including new work that has never been shown before.
Art in Mayfair also runs alongside the Royal Academy’s annual Summer Exhibition and continues to champion the area’s status as a hub for world-class art, design, and fashion. The Kiefer flag installation invites visitors to engage with fine art beyond the Royal Academy’s walls in a truly immersive urban experience.
Dee Corsi, Chief Executive of New West End Company, said: “The West End is fast becoming one of London’s go-to destinations for leisure and cultural experiences, with Art in Mayfair now a much-anticipated fixture in the district’s annual calendar.
Thanks to our partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, the programme continues to grow each year – celebrating Mayfair’s rich artistic heritage and drawing visitors from across London and beyond.
This year, we are especially proud to showcase a striking public art installation by Honorary Royal Academician Anselm Kiefer, whose flag series will transform Bond Street and further reinforce Mayfair’s reputation as a flagship destination for art and culture.”
President of the Royal Academy, Rebecca Salter, said “The Royal Academy of Arts is delighted to partner once again with New West End Company for the eighth edition of Art in Mayfair – a vibrant celebration of art, creativity, and colour during the summer. This year’s chosen artist for the flag commission is Honorary Royal Academician Anselm Kiefer who has selected three recent works to adorn Bond Street and further cement Mayfair’s reputation as a world-class destination for arts and culture.”
