  • The new store openings will create 600 new retail jobs across Italy.

Primark, the international fashion retailer, has bolstered its commitment to the Italian market by announcing an investment of over €50 million in its Italian business. The investment includes five new stores in the Italian cities of Turin, Livorno, Cosenza, Salerno, and Genoa, and will bring Primark’s total footprint in the country to 20 stores. Alongside its ambitious growth plans in the market, Primark will create around 600 new retail roles across Italy, increasing the Italian workforce to over 5,000 employees.

Since opening its first store just eight years ago in the ‘Il Centro’ shopping centre in Arese, Milan, Primark has proven a hit in Italy: already the retailer has 15 stores across the country, including a flagship store and regional office in the centre of Italy’s fashion capital, Milan. Primark’s much-loved quality fashion and everyday essentials at affordable prices have become a firm favourite with customers across Italy.

As part of its commitment to invest in its store portfolio, Primark will bring its fashion offering to four brand new cities, including Porta a Mare shopping centre (Livorno); Metropolis shopping centre, Rende (Cosenza); Maximall shopping centre, Pontecagnano Faiano (Salerno); as well as a new city centre store in Genoa. Following the success of Primark Turin Le Gru, which opened in November 2022, Primark is bringing a second store to the city and will open at the new To Dream shopping centre.

What makes Primark unique is its focus on creating a fantastic in-store experience for everyone, and these five new stores will be designed to reflect the needs of local customers and communities, taking inspiration from the latest retail innovations and Italian style and architecture. Each store will have LED lighting, as Primark progresses its ambition to halve its carbon footprint across its value chain by 2030. The new stores will also be the first in Italy to feature self-service checkouts, meaning that customers can look forward to enjoying additional speed and convenience during their store visits.

To support the new stores opening, Primark will create 600 retail roles, increasing the total Primark Italy workforce to over 5,000 employees. Working in Primark is an opportunity to build a lifelong career in retail, with extensive in-house training programmes for employees, as well as learning and development opportunities across all levels. A mix of full and part-time roles for retail assistants and managerial positions will be available and interested candidates can apply for a position through the Primark careers website with recruitment beginning in the coming months.

Luca Ciuffreda, Director of Primark Italy said: ‘Over the past eight years, Primark has seen significant growth across Italy, already we have 15 stores across 10 provinces, with no intention of slowing down. Today we are proud to announce an ambitious investment in our store portfolio and long-term growth of Primark Italy. This exciting expansion plan will create employment and positively impact the local communities where we are opening. Where we have stores already, we know our Italian customers love our offering of the best value fashion, beauty and homeware coupled with an amazing in-store experience, and we look forward to bringing Primark to more customers in more cities across Italy in the coming years.”

Primark’s investment in Italy is part of the retailer’s ambitious growth plans to expand across new and existing markets with the aim of reaching 530 stores by 2026, including new US states and new European markets, such as Hungary.
