A free public exhibition unites Savile Row tailors in honour of wool excellence
The Campaign for Wool is a multiple-industry initiative that was founded in January 2010 by His Majesty King Charles III, when he was HRH The Prince of Wales in January 2010. The Campaign’s first ‘Wool Week’ officially began in October 2010 with a launch event that saw London’s historic tailoring street Savile Row transformed into a pasture upon which fifty sheep grazed.
To mark the 15th Anniversary of The Campaign for Wool and its long-standing partnership with Savile Row, tailors of The Row are unveiling special wool-themed window displays and launching new exclusive cloths and Limited Edition collections.
In this celebratory wool showcase, Savile Row tailors will unite to proudly feature wool in their window displays, highlighting the industry’s enduring commitment to sustainability and supporting the Campaign for Wool’s powerful consumer message: “Check It’s Wool.”
Savile Row window display highlights include new, exclusive wool fabrics launched this Wool Month by Henry Poole & Co., Anderson & Sheppard, Gieves & Hawkes, and Huntsman, showcased alongside clothsurgeon’s His Majesty King Charles III–inspired bomber jacket, crafted from wool bunting originally displayed during the King’s Coronation in 2023.
As part of a nationwide and international series of events, Campaign for Wool is encouraging the public to make informed, responsible choices by opting for wool, one of nature’s most innovative, sustainable and planet-friendly fibres, over synthetic alternatives.
This three-week exhibition will celebrate Savile Row craftsmanship and showcase an array of wool pieces, from finely tailored suits to luxurious cloths, available to view from Monday, 13th October to Thursday, 31st October. The exhibition also includes several exciting new launches and highlights by Savile Row tailors:
- Henry Poole & Co is excited to introduce a new exclusive House Fabric: The Lonsdale Check. Henry Poole & Co has nearly 220 years of sartorial history in their archives, and the tailor is excited to re-introduce a fabric playing a homage to the 5th Earl of Lonsdale (1857–1944) who had his suits made from his own signature Lonsdale tweed. With Standeven, the original mill behind the Earl’s tweed, still in operation, Henry Poole & Co. returned there, 113 years later, to faithfully recreate the vibrant and elegant design. This wool cloth is now available at Henry Poole & Co.
- clothsurgeon will display a His Majesty King Charles III–inspired bomber jacket, crafted from wool bunting originally displayed during the King’s Coronation in 2023.
- Holland & Sherry will pay tribute to the journey of wool from fibre to fabric, with a focus on tweed. The house will also welcome back Welsh sheep breeders and hand-weavers for live demonstrations and workshops.
- Gieves & Hawkes will be displaying and launching a limited-edition collection comprised of coats and jackets crafted using tweed from Glenlyon Tweed Mill. From the Highland town of Aberfeldy comes a cloth with rare integrity: Glenlyon Tweed, the direct descendant of the weaving house of P&J Haggart’s, whose mill has stood since the 1800s. Today, a small team of master weavers continues that tradition, crafting tweeds that are as beautiful as they are enduring. Now available at Gieves & Hawkes, Glenlyon Tweed brings heritage, authenticity, and substance to contemporary tailoring – a limited collection comprised of overcoats and blazers that are built to last, and to be loved.
- Anderson & Sheppard will showcase their House Special Tweed collection launched earlier this year that is part of a unique circular initiative promoting recycled waste in bespoke tailoring, spearheaded by Eco-Luxe.
- Huntsman will feature AW2025 Tailoring collection created with wool from British Mills with low carbon footprint.
- JP Hackett have launched a SpringRam Cheviot wool cloth coat from Harrisons cloth in a limited edition number of 15 to link with the 15 year anniversary of Wool Month. The coats are available to order.
- Additional showcases from other tailoring houses will further highlight the artistry and innovation at the heart of modern wool tailoring.
Peter Ackroyd, Chairman, Campaign for Wool comments: “Savile Row has been a central part of the Campaign for Wool since its inception in 2010, which transformed London’s historic tailoring street into a pasture where 50 sheep grazed. The Campaign returned to Savile Row again in 2015 when Savile Row and City Tailors partnered with leading UK and Italian wool mills during Wool Week (now known as Wool Month) to create a variety of beautiful, finely tailored and outerwear garments and accessories. Tailors, both established and emerging, continue to champion the use of Merino and British wool fabrics every day, with their bespoke creations being sent all around the UK and beyond. We are thrilled to partner with them once more in celebration of our 15th anniversary, which will feature exciting window displays, limited edition wool garments, and pop-up retail events that showcase wool as a sustainable fibre for the future.”
Jenny Casebourne, Property Director of The Pollen Estate comments: “We have been proud supporters of the Campaign for Wool since its inception, and it’s wonderful to see Savile Row’s tailoring community come together once again for a public exhibition that celebrates wool, a natural fabric that reflects style, craftsmanship and a commitment to sustainability. As custodians of this historic street, The Pollen Estate is committed to championing initiatives that preserve its legacy while shaping a forward-thinking future for Savile Row.”
The wool-themed window displays in Savile Row’s renowned tailoring houses, created to celebrate the Campaign for Wool’s Anniversary, will offer the public a unique opportunity to experience and engage with the legacy of British tailoring.
