• Majestic launches ‘Majestic Miles’ charity challenge to celebrate its 45th birthday
  • Colleagues will run, walk, hike, cycle, row and kayak towards 45,000-mile target
  • 45-day challenge will raise funds for The Majestic Charitable Foundation, which supports The Brain Tumour Charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably and Child Bereavement UK

Colleagues from Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, are teaming up to take on a mammoth charity challenge next month in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Majestic’s workforce will cover a combined total of 45,000 miles in the space of just 45 days, tackling roads and rivers, mountains and marshlands when their intrepid fundraising efforts get underway from 1st September.

The ‘Majestic Miles’ challenge, which forms part of Majestic’s 45th birthday celebrations, has been designed to be inclusive and engaging for people across the business, allowing individuals to choose how and when they want to cover their miles. Colleagues have signed up to tackle a host of personal and team challenges that will see them rack up their distances by walking, running, hiking, cycling, swimming, rowing and kayaking. From the Great North Run and half marathons in London, Dorking and Ipswich, to climbing Ben Nevis and hosting their own football tournament, teams across the business have pulled together to get involved and make a real difference for families in need.

Their collective efforts will raise vital funds for The Majestic Charitable Foundation, which was established last year to help Majestic give back to the communities it serves around the UK and help causes close to its colleagues’ hearts. It currently supports three main national charities – The Brain Tumour Charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and Child Bereavement UK – as well as Jersey Cancer Relief, all of which were nominated by Majestic colleagues. Later this year, it will hand out £45,000-worth of grants to smaller, local causes across the country.

Majestic has a history of philanthropy, having raised more than £1 million for charity prior to the launch of the Majestic Charitable Foundation last summer. In each of the past four years, its directors have taken on cycling challenges, raising a total of almost £50,000 in the process. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the retailer’s executive team rode 680 miles in 24 hours on static bikes – covering the distance from its southernmost store in Falmouth, to its northernmost store in Edinburgh. They also completed the London to Brighton cycle in 2022, rode 100km around the Isle of Wight in 2023 and overcame torrential rain and gale force winds during a 70km route around the coast of Jersey in September last year.

Majestic CEO John Colley said: “We have a really proud record of fundraising for charities at Majestic – it’s always been a part of our DNA – but this year we wanted to do something a bit different to celebrate our 45th birthday. Majestic Miles is a really inclusive, engaging but demanding challenge that will need everyone to pull together as a team.

Our colleagues are incredibly passionate about helping our charity partners and the families that they support. It’s been great to see so many of them commit to such a broad range of personal challenges, all of which will inch us closer to our 45,000-mile target.

We know that times are tough for a lot of people right now, but it is the support and kind donations of our friends, family, colleagues, customers and suppliers that will give us that determination we’ll need to get over the line. Any contributions, no matter how large or small, will help us make a real difference for our amazing partner charities.”
