The Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation (IFCF) has announced a new partnership creating the ‘IFCF Moments that Matter Fund’ with Together For Short Lives – the leading UK-wide charity for children with serious illnesses, their families and the professionals who support them.

The IFCF Moments That Matter Fund is a £170,000 grant programme offering grants of up to £5,000 to families caring for children who need palliative care. The fund provides practical, emotional and financial support, enabling families to focus on what matters most: spending quality time together.

The fund will help children and their loved ones create lasting memories together by funding experiences, days out and breaks when they need it most. It recognises that every family’s situation is different and aims to help them in whichever way they choose, whether it be through a trip to the seaside, the cinema, or a family holiday.

This partnership is the latest example of IFCF’s commitment to supporting children and families across the UK. It has been made possible thanks to funds raised by Tarsem Dhaliwal, Group Chief Executive of Iceland Foods and Trustee of the IFCF, who took on the London Marathon earlier this year. His fundraising efforts will help deliver meaningful support where it is needed most, creating a lasting impact for families facing challenges today.

Tarsem Dhaliwal said: “Family has always been at the heart of Iceland, and we know how important it is to make precious memories together, especially when families are facing incredibly difficult circumstances. That’s why we’re so proud to be supporting Together for Short Lives through the IFCF Moments That Matter Fund.

When a child has a life-shortening condition, families spend so much of their time focused on hospital appointments, treatment, and simply getting through each day. The opportunity to step away from those challenges, even for a short time, and create special moments together can bring real joy.

It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the money raised through my marathon challenge will help kick-start this initiative, with my son, Paul, and his wife, Sian, helping to lead the work going forward. We’re honoured to work alongside Together for Short Lives and contribute to the important impact they have made and continue to make.”

Nick Carroll, Chief Executive of Together for Short Lives, said: “For families caring for a child with a serious illness, opportunities to spend quality time together can be limited by the very real practical and financial challenges they face every day. The cost of travel, accessible accommodation and specialist equipment can put precious experiences beyond reach.

Through this extraordinary partnership, families will be able to choose where, when and how they create cherished memories, whether on a day trip, a short break or a long-dreamed-of holiday by the sea.

This wonderful fund is a testament to the family values that define the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation. We are hugely grateful to Tarsem, Paul, and everyone at IFCF for their generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping families make memories that will last a lifetime.”

Alongside providing direct support to families and children’s palliative care professionals, Together for Short Lives raises vital funds for the UK’s 52 children’s hospices, helping to ensure these essential services can continue delivering lifeline care and support to thousands of children and families across the country.

A visit to Claire House Children’s Hospice marked the start of the partnership, giving Paul Dhaliwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Iceland Foods and Trustee of the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, and IFCF Ambassador, Sian Dhaliwal, as well as representatives from the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, the opportunity to see first-hand the impact children’s hospices have on families. Through the IFCF Moments That Matter Fund, the Foundation will continue to support Together for Short Lives with further planned activity and special Christmas events planned to help families create memories together.
