Eldon Square, Newcastle’s premier shopping and leisure destination, today announces that Oseyo, the largest Asian supermarket retailer in the UK, is set to open a new store at the centre – marking both the brand’s first foray into the North East and its largest supermarket to date.

The impressive 20,000 sq ft site, which is set to open in Q3 of 2026, sits as part of an ambitious regional expansion strategy for the supermarket retailer. With only three existing sites in the North, the Newcastle location will serve as a gateway to the North East and Scotland, acting as a catalyst to introduce the Oseyo brand to a wider audience.

Eldon Square’s Oseyo store will not only focus on bringing the brand’s trademark vibrance, high quality shopping experience and vast array of products to Eldon Square visitors, but also on providing an unrivalled shopping experience.

Visitors can expect the latest concepts and viral products from across the Oseyo brand, alongside their variety of Korean and Asian foods, toys, stationery, houseware and electronics. The space will feature a range of immersive, trend-driven experiences, including Oseyo Snaps – Korean-style photobooths designed for social engagement – a large wall of claw machines imported from Japan, and a dedicated Korean beauty section reflecting strong consumer demand.

Additional highlights will include a highly popular Korean ice cup drinks zone, a bespoke ‘Ramyun Library’ showcasing an extensive selection of ramyun from across Asia, and dedicated tasting areas where customers can sample products such as dumplings and ramen free of charge. Together, these elements will position the store as a distinctive experiential retail destination within the city.

Bernice Nesham, Director of Asset Management at Pradera Lateral, commented: “Starting in 2015 with a small shop on Tottenham Court Road, Oseyo has been reinventing the Asian supermarket industry in the UK over the last decade. We are thrilled to have such an innovative and disruptive brand select Eldon Square as both its largest store and its first in the North East. From new brands like Oseyo to the opening of our new multi-use leisure offering Freight Island, Eldon Square is charging into the future of bringing the very best experiences to our visitors.”

Isaac Kweon, Operations Director at Oseyo, added: “Following the success of our other Northern stores, we were drawn to Eldon Square for our biggest and newest site due to the city’s strong student population, vibrant food culture and diverse audience demographics. These factors, when coupled with the exciting transformation afoot at the centre, leave us with great confidence that our new site will be a massive success.”
