Fashion sales in April rose by an impressive 6.7% year-on-year

The fashion category is firmly in focus at Eldon Square, Newcastle’s premier shopping and leisure destination, as the sector records a remarkable period of growth. The Office for National Statistics reported that UK clothing and footwear retail was down 1.8% YoY in April 2025 but despite economic pressures and evolving consumer habits, fashion at Eldon Square is not only holding steady, but thriving. Driven by a mix of high street favourites and heritage brands, Eldon Square is cementing itself as one of the North East’s most prominent shopping hubs.

Supercharged by a strong Easter weekend, April saw Eldon Square’s mixed fashion category post a +6.7% uplift YoY, which included standout results from many brands in the centre.

May continued to see an upward trend with the mixed fashion category growing +1.5% YoY at Eldon Square. Major fashion brands were also enjoying growth during May, aided by the centre’s Spring Summer Fashion campaign, in which the new brand positioning and website was launched.

The success of fashion retail at Eldon Square is largely down to the variety on offer, from Mango to Marks and Spencers, there is something for everyone within the centre.

Helen Cowie, Centre Director at Eldon Square, said: “Fashion retail continues to be a defining strength of Eldon Square. With a central location, the centre acts as an ecosystem for the city and the strong lineup of international brands positions Eldon Square as a leading proposition for the local community.”
