All Poundland stores to close by 7pm today ahead of match in Atlanta, Georgia

All Poundland stores across England will close today (Wednesday 15th July) by 7pm to allow colleagues to watch the England-Argentina semi-final today at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, USA.

The early closure will also apply to Poundland stores in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and its Dealz stores in the Republic of Ireland, so colleagues based in those countries can also watch the match, whoever they’re supporting!

Throughout the tournament Poundland stores have seen strong sales of face paint, bunting and flags and it’s expecting brisk trade today on snacks and drinks ahead the match.

Announcing the early closure to colleagues, Poundland retail director Alan Smallman said: “We want to give as many colleagues as possible the chance to watch tonight’s game – they’ve been working especially hard over the past few weeks as football fever has taken hold.

Whoever their supporting, this early end to the trading day will give them a little extra time with their families to enjoy the match.”

Around 175 of Poundland’s 600 stores would normally have extended opening hours, predominately those on retail parks and large shopping centres.
