Get Living has announced that the cinema chain Everyman will open one of its largest venues in London at The Elephant, the new £500m town centre at Elephant & Castle.

The five-screen cinema, which is Everyman’s 17th venue in the capital, will show the latest blockbusters, independent films and timeless classics, alongside a curated programme of events, including Q&As, screenings, live broadcast theatre, opera and ballet, and exclusive members’ events.

Every screening will be enjoyed from Everyman’s iconic velvet sofas and armchairs, with warm, personalised hospitality, a stylish bar, and food and drinks served directly to your seat.

Everyman’s Elephant & Castle location is the next chapter in the area’s long history with British film and cinema, and was the childhood home of both Sir Michael Caine and Charlie Chaplin. Named after a coaching inn recorded in 1765, Elephant & Castle was known as the ‘Piccadilly Circus of south London’ by the early 20th century, a bustling shopping and entertainment district home to seven cinemas including the vast 3,000-seat Trocadero.

Everyman is the latest in a raft of new names that have signed up at The Elephant. This includes Pret A Manger and Bird & Blend, the speciality tea brand known for its creative blends and experiential retail approach, which will introduce a distinctive, experience-led offer.

Additionally, Superdrug will bring its accessible health and beauty retail to the town centre.

Aidan Malia, Senior Director, The Elephant, said: “The addition of Everyman further strengthens the already compelling line-up of leisure, food & drink, and retail operators at The Elephant, and marks another major milestone for Elephant & Castle’s new town centre. We are also delighted to welcome Pret A Manger, Bird & Blend and Superdrug. This next wave of brands is a strong vote of confidence in south London’s retail and leisure future, and in our long-term vision for The Elephant.”

Farah Golant, CEO Everyman, said: “Opening at The Elephant is a hugely exciting moment for Everyman. Elephant & Castle is a vibrant, creative community, and we can’t wait to welcome locals and visitors to experience the magic of the big screen alongside the warm, first-class hospitality that defines Everyman.”

In 2027, a new University of the Arts London (UAL) campus for the London College of Communication (LCC) will open, accommodating around 5,500 students and staff. The campus will also house the UAL Archives and Special Collections Centre, bringing together extensive creative arts collections, including the Stanley Kubrick archive, and opening them up for public access.

Following this phase, plans have been approved for a further 507 homes, including 49 for affordable rent and 116 for social rent, alongside additional affordable retail and workspace.

Future plans also include a 27,800+ sq ft cultural venue created through the repurposing of part of the existing LCC building. The space will support London’s night-time economy while providing a platform for emerging creative talent.
