Senior industry leaders gathered in Munich to explore the technologies, business models and partnerships shaping the future of digital signage.

From AI-driven platform strategies to cybersecurity, orchestration and industry consolidation, this year’s Digital Signage Summit (The DSS) examined the forces actively reshaping how digital signage and DOOH networks are built, managed and scaled.

In its 20th anniversary year, The DSS 2026 reinforced its position not simply as a conference, but as a strategic meeting point for the global digital signage industry. The event underscored how rapidly the industry is evolving, and why leadership dialogue has never been more important.

Across two days executives, technology leaders, strategists and innovators from across Europe, North America, MEA and beyond discussed how the sector is adapting during a period of significant transformation.

Organised by invidis consulting in collaboration with Integrated Systems Events (ISE), this year’s summit centred on ‘NextGen Signage’ with a focus on how the industry is evolving beyond traditional hardware-led models towards increasingly software-driven, platform-based and service-oriented ecosystems.

Keynote presentations, panels, spotlight sessions and networking events highlighted strategic direction, operational resilience and long-term value creation. Conversations around consolidation, acquisitions and changing market dynamics made clear just how quickly the competitive landscape is shifting, and how critical strategic positioning has become for companies across the sector.

New breakout session formats introduced for The DSS 2026 proved highly successful, attracting strong attendance across both days and creating additional opportunities for focused discussion and direct audience engagement. Networking events and informal meeting formats further reinforced The DSS’s reputation as a leadership-focused industry forum built around peer exchange and strategic dialogue.

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, said: “What makes The DSS unique is the calibre of people and conversations taking place across the event. The DSS brings together the leaders actively shaping the future of digital signage and creates an environment for meaningful discussion, collaboration and long-term strategic thinking.”

“This year’s summit really showed how much the industry has shifted. You can clearly feel the industry entering a new phase,” added Florian Rotberg, Founder and Managing Director of invidis consulting. “Companies are no longer discussing what might happen one day, they are making strategic decisions now about platforms, AI, operations and long-term scalability. You can really see priorities changing, from rapid growth to making the right decisions for the long term.”

The invidis Strategy Awards provided a snapshot of the technologies and business models currently defining the industry’s direction.
The winners are:

• Shared Spaces & Engaging Experiences: M-Cube, Galeria Bombi
• Green Signage: Seoul Metropolitan Government, DooH Nighttime Brightness Limits
• Business Critical: Screenly, Cybersecurity
• Innovation: Pantheon Labs, Digital Human / AI agent solution
• Rising Star: TCL, Sony-JV / Global Digital Signage Launch
• Industry Leadership: Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), World’s Leading Digital Signage Show
• Software & Platforms: ScreenCloud, Refreshed platform
• Managed Service: Econocom, Samsung MS Offering
• invidis Special Award: Roland Grassberger

Alongside the conference programme, the event further demonstrated the importance of peer-to-peer exchange at leadership level. With hundreds of C-Suite executives and senior decision-makers in attendance, The DSS 2026 reaffirmed its position as one of the few places where the industry’s most influential players could openly exchange strategies, challenges and future priorities face-to-face.

The Digital Signage Summit will return 12th – 13th May 2027 to the Hilton Munich Airport.

The Digital Signage Summit (The DSS) has grown and evolved since its launch in 2006. Created to bring the industry together to share business strategy and insight, challenge assumptions and define what’s next, The DSS is, 20 years on, still setting the pace in the fast-moving world of digital signage.

Returning to the Hilton Munich Airport, Germany, on 20th – 21st May for its 20-year anniversary edition, The DSS is the leading strategy conference for digital signage, driving exchange between senior executives, technology leaders and the brands investing in the next wave of connected experiences. In 2026, The DSS, presented by Integrated Systems Events and invidis consulting GmbH, takes on an even more international scope, reflecting its position as a truly global platform for the industry.

To mark this anniversary, The DSS 2026 programme will look back at the breakthroughs that have shaped the industry over the past 20 years and look ahead to what will define the next decade of digital signage strategy.

From small beginnings to the global stage

In 2006, invidis consulting set out to create a platform for sharing industry intelligence, learning from leaders and helping the market navigate change. The Munich Digital Signage Conference was born at the Systems IT trade fair with just 40 guests – but with enough proof that the appetite for practical strategy and real-world insight was there.

invidis also began bringing its established conference format to major AV trade shows and in 2008, it debuted at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) under the name “DiSCO”. By 2009, the conference had progressed to a standalone event held at the International Congress Centre Messe Munchen (ICM), and, under the patronage of the OVAB Digital (Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau) was known as the OVAB Digital Signage Conference, Munich.

A year later, the conference moved to Munich Airport – its long-term home – then known as the Kempinski Airport Hotel, and by 2014, attendance had reached 350 industry representatives, reflecting the event’s growing influence and the market’s accelerating pace.

A major growth phase followed in 2015 as invidis and Integrated Systems Events formed a joint venture, with the event organisation acquiring a majority stake in the series, strengthening global reach and deepening the event’s connection with the wider ISE community.

“Reaching 20 years is a remarkable milestone for The Digital Signage Summit. What began as a small gathering of industry professionals has grown into the definitive platform for strategic insight, innovation, and collaboration, ” says Mike Blackman, Managing Director, Integrated Systems Events. “The DSS continues to connect the leaders shaping the future of digital signage worldwide, and this anniversary edition reflects both the evolution of the market and the opportunities ahead.”

The event connecting the digital signage industry

The Digital Signage Summit series has expanded its reach by launching sister events – such as DSS MENA in Dubai in 2025 and DSS events at InfoComm shows in North and Latin America – reinforcing its role as a premier gathering for the global digital signage and DOOH industry. During the pandemic in 2020, the conference had to pivot to a virtual format, with ‘DSS The Show’ broadcast live for eight hours to more than 2,500 participants.

Today, The DSS attracts influential business leaders from around the world, alongside major brand names as headline sponsors. Reflecting where the market is heading, the programme includes a dedicated forum for CTOs and developers, making it a unique opportunity for technology providers to engage both commercial and technical stakeholders in one place.

“The DSS has always been about more than just digital signage. It’s about strategy, connection, and driving meaningful business outcomes, ” says Florian Rotberg, Founder & Owner of invidis consulting GmbH. “Looking back over two decades, it’s incredible to see how the industry has matured, and we’re excited to bring together the brightest minds and innovators to explore what the chapter of digital signage will hold.”

The DSS 2026 – The anniversary edition

This May, the event returns with a vibrant, insightful programme, cementing 20-years as the must-attend digital signage business event. This milestone edition will focus on NextGen Signage, centred around 9 conferencing themes: Managed Signage, Digital Signage in Retail and Beyond, Converged Communications, Operating Systems and Cyber Security, Green Signage, Future-Proofing Digital Signage, AI in Signage, The Future of CMS, and Retail Media.

Across two days of keynotes, panel discussions, and expert-led sessions, The DSS 2026 will offer critical insight on the transformative forces impacting the industry from global politics and artificial intelligence to climate change and market maturity which are reshaping the operational and strategic foundations.

The DSS Anniversary Keynote, “20 Years on Screen: The Stories, the Shifts, the Future” will offer a unique chance to reflect on the industry evolution and highlighting the pivotal moments, technologies, and market forces that have shaped 2 decades of digital signage innovation. It will also look ahead to the opportunities and challenges defining the next chapter of the sector, offering a forward-thinking perspective that sets the tone for this special 20th anniversary edition of the summit.

Networking and learning at The DSS roll straight into the evening at Airbräu, in what promises to be a standout occasion, complete with 20th‑birthday surprises and lively celebrations.

Join the decision-makers shaping digital signage projects worldwide. Reserve your space at The DSS to connect with qualified buyers and influencers, and secure senior-level meetings in a results-driven environment.

Early bird registration is now open for the sector’s leading strategy forum. International decision-makers will convene on 20th – 21st May at the Hilton Munich Airport to define the next era of digital signage and DOOH.

Marking its 20th anniversary, The Digital Signage Summit (The DSS) 2026, organised by invidis in a joint venture with Integrated Systems Events (ISE), will bring together the sector’s most senior leaders for a strategic examination of the forces reshaping digital signage and DOOH. Over two decades, the Summit has evolved into the industry’s principal platform for executive-level exchange, providing a neutral environment for high-level insight, peer dialogue, and long-term vision setting.

As the pre-eminent forum for the market’s most influential decision-makers, The DSS presents strategic perspectives from the world’s leading innovators and solution providers. By fostering cohesion across Retail Digital Signage, DOOH, and Retail Media, the Summit establishes shared priorities, guides capital allocation, and defines the sector’s next phase of sustainable growth.

Under the theme NextGen Signage, The DSS 2026 will bring together leaders to reimagine, rethink, reinvent, recalibrate, and reset digital signage in a time of transformation. This milestone edition will examine the strategic and technological forces reshaping the global market, from economic shifts and consolidation to new competitive pressures and the accelerating impact of AI, while redefining content workflows, operations, and the broader value chain. Attendees will hear the Anniversary Keynote, “20 Years on Screen: The Stories, the Shifts, the Future”, reflecting on the industry’s evolution and looking ahead to the next chapter, with evening networking and 20th‑birthday celebrations at Airbräu.

“Twenty years of DSS is the perfect moment to look back at the first two decades of digital signage and to do it in an entertaining way,” says Florian Rotberg, Founder & Owner of invidis consulting GmbH. “Our industry has grown from a niche built on CRT tubes to a business-critical ecosystem powered by LEDs, commoditized screens, and increasingly sophisticated software and service platforms. The old silos are gone, and the future is wide open – intelligent, connected, and AI driven. We’re excited to celebrate some of the best moments from 20 years of digital signage and to share our perspective on where the next five years will take us.”

Reflecting on the sector’s current trajectory, Stefan Schieker, Senior Partner of invidis consulting GmbH, adds: “Digital signage has matured. With easier tech and AI accelerating everything from content to analytics, we can finally focus on real value and future-ready business models. Despite global challenges, this moment is a turning point full of disruption, but even more full of opportunity.”

Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, emphasises the Summit’s ongoing significance: “As we mark twenty years of Digital Signage Summit, the event remains the definitive forum for industry leaders to assess shifting priorities and emerging challenges in digital signage. This is where the industry’s most forward-thinking leaders converge, and where the next big ideas take shape.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to stay at the forefront of the digital signage revolution. Early bird tickets are available for a limited time. Accommodation options for one or two nights at the Hilton Munich Airport are also available.

Ocean Outdoor and Absen have partnered to replace the existing ‘The Screen @ Arndale, Manchester’. The project involved installing a custom-designed, energy-saving LED display that perfectly integrated with the building’s unique 34-metre convex curve, resulting in a powerful, high-performance visual solution.

Located in the centre of Manchester, the Arndale Centre is one of the largest indoor shopping centres in the UK. The centre features over 200 stores as well as numerous food outlets and leisure spaces for visitors to enjoy.

The project’s brief was to replace the previous screen with a new display that was high-impact, functional and efficient. The main requirements were to make the most of the existing structure, fit the building’s 34-metre convex curve, and ensure energy-saving performance and remote monitoring capabilities.

Absen worked closely with Ocean to create a customised cabinet solution designed to fit the Arndale Centre’s unique curvature requirements and seamlessly blend with the building aesthetic. As part of the process, Absen created a prototype set-up at its UK showroom to road-test the display cabinets and screen. The new screen needed to be lightweight to work with the existing steel support structure and had to be designed for maintenance access while fitting the exact convex curve. The Absen A0621 (Energy Saving version), was the perfect solution to meet these requirements.

The screen measures an impressive 17.92 m wide by 5.12 m high. A custom ‘cut panel’ feature ensures the screen fits the building’s curve. The solution also offers several important benefits, including a 30 percent + reduction in power consumption which helps lower operational costs, and intelligent monitoring for real-time data collection and management.

Ocean commented: “We selected Absen based on the company’s lightweight product design and its ability to create custom solutions for complex architectural requirements. The client feedback has been positive.”

Europe’s premier digital signage event set a new attendance record, featuring three days of high-level content that explored business-critical challenges and opportunities.

The Digital Signage Summit Europe (DSSE) has concluded with a record of almost 500 delegates following three-days of strategic insight and ground-breaking technologies at the Hilton Munich Airport, Germany. Organised by invidis in a joint venture with Integrated Systems Events (ISE), DSSE took place from 21st – 23rd May 2025, bringing together innovators and thought leaders to debut its new three-day format.

Florian Rotberg, conference chair and Managing Director of invidis consulting, reflected, “Over the past three days, DSSE 2025 has not only set a new benchmark for innovation and collaboration but has also highlighted the pressing challenges and future opportunities that our industry must address. From groundbreaking advancements in digital signage to meaningful conversations about sustainability and user engagement, this year’s summit has truly redefined what’s possible. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all our speakers, sponsors, and attendees for their invaluable contributions, which have made our first three-day summit an unforgettable, record-breaking success.”

Headline themes for DSS Europe included AI and Managed Services, with over 100 speakers setting the agenda across more than 60 impactful keynotes, presentations, panel discussions, and workshops. This year’s edition was presented in partnership with ChromeOS by Google as the headline sponsor, Lenovo as Premium Events Partner, M-Cube as Technology Partner, as well as support from several other notable brands.

Highlights of DSS Europe 2025

DSSE 2025 set a new benchmark for the industry providing insightful exploration of the evolving digital signage landscape, highlighting crucial themes such as cybersecurity, managed signage, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The event began with the inaugural Digital Signage Technology Forum, where leaders from companies like Google ChromeOS, TeamViewer, and Kirchberg Capital discussed the rising importance of software, cybersecurity, AI, and advancements in player technologies.

Subsequent sessions delved into managed services, data-driven decision-making, sustainability, and responses to geopolitical challenges, featuring high-profile speakers such as Trison’s Alberto Cáceres, SignageOS’s Stan Richter, and Lenovo’s Johanny Payero. The summit concluded with a focus on AI’s transformative impact on digital signage and retail, including topics like AI-driven content creation, audience targeting, and data analytics.

A comprehensive timetable of networking events including network breakfasts and evening gatherings offered numerous invaluable opportunities to make new connections. A stand-out event was the invidis Strategy Awards 2025, hosted by invidis and Dave Haynes, publisher at Sixteen:Nine. These prestigious awards recognise exceptional individuals and organisations demonstrating strategic excellence across the industry.

The winners of the invidis Strategy Awards 2025 are:

The Special Recognition Award acknowledges the significant impact of Dave’s contributions and his distinctive voice within the digital signage industry.

This year’s exhibiting brands included DynaScan, Sony, iiyama, Signage OS, Samsung, Sharp NEC and many more.

The invidis Compass Workshop will introduce the updated web-based interface of the Compass platform, first launched at DSSE 2023. The tool provides structured, expert-verified comparisons of digital signage CMS solutions and now includes Use Case filtering to support project-specific selection. The session will conclude with a roundtable discussion, inviting input on how integration services, from hardware deployment to content management, should be reflected in future iterations of the tool. In addition, invidis will sponsor a Green Signage Workshop on 22nd May. The session offers an update on EU sustainability regulations, showcases upcoming eco-friendly product innovations, and introduces the invidis carbon footprint calculator. The workshop concludes with a roundtable discussion on current industry challenges, making it ideal for professionals seeking practical insights and peer exchange on green signage.

Florian Rotberg, Managing Director of invidis consulting and co-host of Digital Signage Summit Europe (DSSE), offers an exclusive preview of what’s to come at the industry’s most anticipated strategy event, taking place 21st – 23rd May 2025 at Hilton Munich Airport.

What makes DSSE stand out, and why is it such an important event for the industry?

Digital Signage Summit Europe (DSSE), organised by invidis and ISE, is unique because it’s purpose-built for strategic exchange. While many events in our space focus on product launches and visual spectacle, this conference is built around deep industry insight, personal connection, and meaningful conversation. It brings together decision-makers, innovators, and thought leaders under one roof in a focused environment where discussions can evolve in real time.

This year, our focus on managed services and AI responds directly to where the market is heading – and these aren’t just trends, they’re structural shifts, and we’re giving them the platform they need.

How will this year’s sessions shape the experience for attendees?

We’ve curated a programme that reflects the industry’s most pressing questions: how to operate digital signage at scale, how to create smarter content, and how to adapt to rapid technological change. For the first time, we’re featuring three major keynotes, each designed to anchor a different pillar of the event; Cybersecurity, Managed Signage, and AI.

Day 1 kicks off the new Digital Signage Tech Forum with a keynote that sets the stage by highlighting the increasing role of software and, as a result, cybersecurity, in shaping the future of the digital signage industry. On Day 2, our keynote will deliver an in-depth overview of the global digital signage market, highlighting key trends, challenges, and insights shaping the industry. A special focus will be placed on this year’s Summit theme: Managed Signage. Our third keynote, on the final day, will tackle the intersection of AI and digital signage – what’s coming next, and how businesses can start preparing now.

Across all sessions, we’re offering a mix of formats, such as keynotes, panels, deep dives, and informal meetups, so that attendees can engage in ways that suit their learning style and interests. It’s a dynamic agenda built for active participation.

Why was it important to expand the event from two to three days?

The decision came down to two things: demand and depth. The digital signage landscape is now a critical part of communication, commerce, and customer experience across industries. That growth means there’s simply more to discuss.

Let’s dive into managed signage. What does it involve, and why is it such a big focus this year?

Managed signage is a natural evolution of how organisations are thinking about digital infrastructure. In essence, it means applying the managed services model – so familiar in IT – to the world of digital signage. Instead of businesses needing to cobble together their own networks, content platforms, and support models, managed signage offers an end-to-end solution.

This includes not only the installation of displays and software but also ongoing management through centralised network operations centres, remote device control, content scheduling, troubleshooting, and even financing and leasing arrangements. For many businesses, especially those scaling across multiple locations or markets, this model reduces friction. It creates predictability, reduces downtime, and shifts digital signage from a CAPEX-heavy burden to a streamlined, operational solution.

At DSS Europe, we’ll be exploring how this approach is reshaping the market, who the key players are, and what it takes to successfully implement a managed signage strategy.

AI is another major theme. How do you see it transforming the industry, and what conversations will be happening around it at the show?

AI is already influencing digital signage in fundamental ways, but we’re only scratching the surface of its potential. On a basic level, AI is helping us create more adaptive, personalised, and effective content. By analysing data from sensors, cameras, or customer interactions, signage can now respond to context – displaying different messages depending on who’s watching, where they are, and what’s happening in the environment.

But it goes much deeper. AI is also helping us rethink the back-end of signage systems, from predictive maintenance for hardware to smart scheduling of content and performance analytics that inform future campaigns. At DSS Europe, we’ll be unpacking these innovations through real-world use cases, live demonstrations, and panel discussions that ask hard questions.

We also want to dig into the ethical and operational implications. What does data privacy look like in a world of AI-enhanced signage? How do we ensure transparency? What are the boundaries of automation in public spaces? These are questions that need thoughtful answers, and this conference is the place to explore them.

Besides managed signage and AI, what other key topics will be explored at the 2025 event?

The agenda is broad but carefully structured. We’ll be addressing advancements in display technology, system architecture, and software integrations. Another major theme is UX and UI design. How do we create signage that’s not just eye-catching, but intuitive and genuinely helpful?

Data analytics will also feature prominently. As signage becomes smarter, the ability to collect, interpret, and act on data is becoming a competitive differentiator. We’ll look at how to turn raw metrics into meaningful strategy.

In addition, we’re paying close attention to sectors like retail, transportation, education, and smart cities, where digital signage is playing an increasingly vital role. It’s no longer just about screens on walls – it’s about the connective tissue of modern environments.

How can attendees make the most of their time at DSS Europe 2025?

My advice: arrive with a plan but stay open to discovery. Start by exploring the DSS Europe schedule and selecting the sessions and keynotes that align with your goals. You can even create your own personalised agenda directly on the event website. At the same time, make space for networking and walk the floor, connect with peers, and embrace spontaneous conversations over coffee or at evening events. Often, the most valuable insights come from the unexpected.

This year we’re excited to be launching our brand-new app, designed to enhance the attendee experience from the moment you register. The app is powered by AI and matches attendee profiles with topics, sponsors, and with other attendees. This matchmaking tool will help you connect with the right people. You’ll also be able to browse attendee profiles, see who’s coming, and even schedule appointments in advance, so your time at the event is as productive and focused as possible. In addition, the app acts as your personal event companion, offering a full overview of the agenda, speaker line-up, venue map, and real-time updates. Our goal with the app is to help you make the most out of your time at DSS Europe. The app will be available to download at the end of April for iOS and Android.

Finally, what should attendees expect overall from this year’s event?

This is a new era for DSS Europe. The 2025 edition marks our most ambitious programme to date. With senior leaders attending from across the globe, the event promises a truly international perspective.

The atmosphere will be both high-energy and intimate with three days of structured content alongside plenty of room for informal connection. We’ll host over 100 speakers, deliver more than 40 sessions, and offer a platform for product demonstrations, emerging tech, and thought leadership.

We’ll also be presenting the invidis Strategy Awards, celebrating innovation and impact across the industry, and launching the invidis Yearbook 2025 – a definitive guide to the current state of digital signage.
