Fried chicken brand, Thunderbird Fried Chicken is opening a new outlet at Westfield Stratford City, welcoming hungry visitors with award-winning food as the centre continues to expand its delicious and diverse food offering. The casual restaurant will offer crave-worthy fried chicken including award-winning wings, chicken burgers, strips and dips by the bucketload and as well as delicious vegan offerings. Street-food born and founded by Matt Harris and led by Paul Gilchrist, Thunderbird Fried Chicken has been backed by private equity firm Trispan since January 2019 and continues its expansion across the city as visitors indulge in the award-worthy recipes inspired by the American Deep South. After bagging first prize at Wing Fest – the world’s biggest chicken wing festival in summer 2015 for the Chipuffalo Wings, still the star dish today – the brand has been a core part of London’s street food revolution. Setting up as a BBQ Lab, then rebranding as Thunderbird Fired Chicken, the recipes have continued to wow customers and judges, winning the Wing Fest Best Wild Wing ‘People’s Choice’ in 2019. For Wing Fest 2021, taking place this past weekend (24th and 25th July) Thunderbird Fried Chicken showcased two wing recipes. Thunderbird Fried Chicken joins Westfield’s growing array of unique food offerings for centre visitors after a number of new signings earlier this year following the reopening of indoor hospitality. Shoppers can indulge in over 85 food and beverage national and independent outlets at Westfield Stratford City, serving a variety of cuisines including Caribbean, Mexican and Italian. Kate Orwin, Leasing Director UK, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, says: Our recent How We Shop research revealed that over half of UK consumers are looking to spend more locally than last year, which is why we’re pleased to continue supporting local businesses and helping them reach new audiences at our centres. Thunderbird Fried Chicken is a great example of how London’s street food market has thrived – making it one of the most exciting in the world – and we’re excited to be hosting these independent eateries and continue attracting the best and most innovative brands to our centres.”   Thunderbird Fried Chicken CEO Paul Gilchrist says:We’re so excited to be opening Thunderbird Fried Chicken within one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, and to be working with the team at Westfield Stratford City. As an East London born brand, this is a big step for us and we can’t wait to share our offering with a new audience.” Thunderbird Fried Chicken will be located on the first floor in the World Food Hall at Westfield Stratford City in an 804 sqft. unit.
