Westfield centres to host action packed event, ‘Future You’, to support local young people

This October half-term, Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City will host the first ever Future You event, filled with fun, educational events to prevent youth disenfranchisement, working with key partners in the local community to make a positive change.

Working in partnership with local authorities, the project forms part of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s 2021 Community Resilience Action Plan – a five-year action plan introduced to help communities flourish and be a catalyst for growth in Westfield’s local areas of Hammersmith and Fulham and Newham.

Collaborating with retail partners, stakeholders, charities, NGOs, the government and industry bodies, the plan aims to deliver community initiatives in order to have a greater long-term impact and tackle as many local community challenges as possible, with one of the key challenges tackling unemployment and youth disenfranchisement.

From 23rd – 30thOctober , Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City are teaming up with the community and local talent to host a series of diverse and exciting events, workshops and activities. Here you’ll learn how to effectively enrich your mind and body through sports activities, explore prospective career paths with advice on how to find your first job, and develop the right skills and mindset for the creative industry.

Taking place 23rd – 26th October at Westfield London and 27th – 30th October at Westfield Stratford City, Future You aims to engage with young people through a series of workshops and activities focusing on key themes to support the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of 12–18-year-olds in London.

These themes include:

  • Sports and Wellbeing: Fun, physical activities to get the blood-pumping, such as boxing and Mauy Thai with Fight For Peace at Westfield Stratford City and football training sessions with QPR at Westfield London.
  • Education and Career Goals: Opportunities for future CEOs and entrepreneurs to pitch their brilliant ideas, to kickstart their CV or explore prospective career paths with advice on how to find your first job. Get intelligent with your finances in a session hosted by a money expert on budgeting, saving, student finance and more.
  • Creative Arts: These workshops aim to get the creative juices flowing with opportunities to show off lyrical skills at an Open Mic session, or get top tips on how to succeed in the fashion world. Participants can spend a day with fashion experts from London College of Fashion where they can learn all about fashion activism, design, craftsmanship and the business of fashion.

In addition to the fun-packed Future You, the centres will be hosting a live rendition of the educational internet hit show ‘Gastronaut’ hosted by Stefan Gates. Gastronaut Live, at Westfield Stratford City on 27th October and on 28th October at Westfield London, is free for children to attend and will be showcasing lots of bizarre and explosive child-friendly science stunts and games – the perfect family day out experience for both young-at-heart adults and science-loving children. Visitors can expect to see outrageous, hilarious and educational performances featuring rockets, robots, giant cannons and electrifying chemistry. Visitors can view the live show at the centres at the following times: 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
