Waitrose is launching the first plant-based liquid egg alternative

Waitrose is launching the world’s first plant-based liquid egg alternative – OGGS Aquafaba. Sales of vegan products continue to grow at the supermarket and customer demand for vegan baking has doubled over the last six months as customers get behind alternative ingredients.

Vegan egg searches on Waitrose.com have seen a 45% increase compared to last year with vegan baking recipe searches up 326%. Popular recipes on Waitrose.com have been Vegan frosted lemon cake +144% and everyone’s lockdown favourite Vegan banana cake +66%

It’s not only vegan baking which has seen a rise in popularity; recipe searches for Vegan Mayo +943% and Vegan Yorkshire Pudding +75% have also seen huge increases on Waitrose.com

OGGS Aquafaba is made from quality chickpeas and comes in packaging that is FSC sustainably sourced, fully recyclable and certified by The Vegan Society. The company is also working towards its zero waste policy by partnering with other food manufacturers to provide them with cooked chickpeas at a highly reduced price to avoid unnecessary wastage.

OGGS Aquafaba – £1.99 for 200ml (equivalent to four eggs)  is available exclusively on Waitrose.com and in shops from 10th June.
