Verifone Wins Top Partnership Award

The pioneering partnership with Pennies has raised more than £1.9 million for charities since 2016 and was commended for its innovative approach to customer engagement at the Merchant Payments Ecosystem event.

Verifone has won best Merchant Payment Partnership Award for its collaboration with Pennies, the fintech charity, at the Merchant Payments Ecosystem (MPE) event in Berlin. The award recognises the positive contribution Verifone’s technology is making to important charities and in adding value for businesses at the point of sale.

The partnership with Pennies – the digital equivalent of the traditional charity collection box – enables consumers to donate small sums under £1 by ‘rounding up’ their total bill when paying by card in participating stores.

June Felix, President Europe and Russia, Verifone, says: “Retailers are looking for new ways to engage with their customers beyond the traditional option of placing charity boxes on the counter. With Verifone payment solutions in partnership with Pennies, they now have an easy way to donate to good causes around the world. Over the 35 years of being in the payment businesses, we’ve seen that consumers’ definition of a positive shopping experience has undergone a revolution. In exchange for their loyalty, today’s consumers prefer in-store experiences that offer the same convenience, personalisation and speed associated with e-commerce.

As of January 2018, Verifone’s participating retailers in the UK have facilitated more than 8million micro-donations totaling in excess of £1.9 million. Donations support more than 20 charities including Together for Short Lives, Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

Alison Hutchinson CBE, CEO of Pennies, the digital charity box says: “Payments industry leaders, including Verifone, play such a pivotal role in growing the digital donation movement, and with half of Pennies’ donations to date having been made in the last two years alone, the pace of take-up is sharp. Together with partners like Verifone, we’re working to match the growing diversity in paytech as consumers adopt new ways to pay; giving them the power to choose to give when they wish, and ensuring no personal data is required or captured by donating.”
