Velocity Commerce announces new Charity of the Year programme for 2021/22

The Agency team at Velocity Commerce, an Amazon Agency based in Cambridge, has announced the two charities that it will be supporting under its new, annual Charity of the Year programme: East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and Cambridge City Foodbank.

Both charities were chosen as part of an internal nomination process where all team members were asked to submit a charity that they would like to support throughout the year. Following this, the team voted and the two charities with the highest number of votes were announced as the chosen duo.

As well as fundraising for the two charities through a range of activities including: charity runs, sponsored bike rides and bake sales, the team will be using its eBay and Amazon expertise to help EACH’s online stores become more profitable through listings and stock management. As well as this, members of the team will also be spending some of their time volunteering for Cambridge City Foodbank, helping with busy periods and assisting with big collections.

Danny Coe, Managing Director, Velocity Commerce, said: “Giving back through charitable activity has always been at the heart of our business and we have worked hard to support a number of important causes during the past sevenyears. However, this year, we wanted a more targeted approach. Through our programme, we are going to ensure that we are using the resources that we have within the team to truly help these charities, sharing our expertise wisely and providing them with support that they can then take forward with them once the programme is over.

“I am thrilled to be supporting EACH and Cambridge City Foodbank, the work that they both do is vital to our local community, providing incredible care and support for families and individuals in Cambridgeshire. I am looking forward to all that we have planned, I know that the team are ready to throw themselves into the deep end and smash some fundraising goals!”

EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across the region through specialist services, wellbeing activities and counselling. It also provides support and flexibility for the families of children affected by life-threatening conditions, both in the family home and its hospices. Cambridge City Foodbank provides emergency food provisions to help people in crisis and also supports sustainable solutions to address poverty in Cambridge.

Lottie Driver, Corporate Fundraiser (Cambs & West Essex) at EACH, said: “We are so excited that Velocity has chosen EACH as one of their two charities of the year. Partnering with this vibrant, rapidly growing business is a great opportunity and the Velocity team already has some really exciting plans for the year, including participation in a number of very demanding challenge events. Velocity have a lot of hugely valuable expertise they’re happy to share with the charity, too, so we’re looking forward to exploring how we can best utilise this to develop a really impactful partnership.”

Margaret Saner, CEO, Cambridge City Foodbank, comments: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of Velocity’s Charity of the Year partners for 2021 and we’re excited to hear about the team’s fundraising efforts over the coming months. Cambridge City Foodbank is a community-based charity and, as well as donations of food and essential items, monetary donations are so important for enabling us to continue our mission to end food poverty in Cambridgeshire. The COVID-19 pandemic has left many more families experiencing food poverty across our county than ever before, so Velocity’s support comes at a critical time.”

As well as supporting both EACH and the Foodbank over the course of the next 12 months, the Agency team will be sharing their expertise and working pro-bono with Cancer Research UK, helping the charity with its eBay and Amazon sales.
