Toys Hit the Top Spot on eBay UK in First Black Friday at Home

  • Two of the most popular products bought on eBay UK on Black Friday were toys and games
  • 9am replaced the usual commuting peak time, followed by all day shopping spree
  • This Black Friday eBay saw strong support for small businesses with 10 items every minute sold by an SME

Taking a look back at the first ever Black Friday from home, eBay UK can reveal that the two most popular products bought were from the toys category which saw one Lego Harry Potter Hedwig sold every 11 seconds and one Nintendo Switch sold every 4 seconds*.

Whilst some savvy shoppers started filling their baskets at the crack of dawn, many Brits skipped the usual commuter shopping slot and instead made the most of their WFH lie in, with sales spiking at 9am this year.

Shopping small and supporting SMEs was a growing trend this Black Friday as Brits bargain hunted for products and gifts ahead of Christmas and looked to support independent retailers in lockdown. Home to over 300,000 UK small businesses, eBay can reveal that 10 items every minute were sold by an SME on the platform.

Top selling products on Black Friday include:

  1. LEGO Harry Potter Hedwig – 1 sold every 11 seconds
  2. Nintendo Switch – 1 sold every 4 seconds *(between 7 and 8am)
  3. Apple 10.2″ iPad (2020) 32GB – Space Gray- 1 sold every 19 seconds
  4. Refurbished Dyson Cyclone V10 Wireless – 1 every 24 seconds
  5. Lenovo Smart Alarm Clock – 1 sold every 33 seconds

Murray Lambell, General Manager of eBay UK, said” “The events of this year have driven an unprecedented shift to online, and this trend has continued into the Black Friday period as consumers look to capitalise on the best value deals. The Nintendo Switch has proven to be one of the most popular products for the festive season, selling out in record time, and at peak selling 1 every 4 seconds.

“We’ve seen a sustained surge in demand with consumers preparing for Christmas earlier than ever, and a distinct shift in shopping patterns. With people largely working from home, we saw the first sales traffic peak on eBay UK at 9am, whereas last year we saw traffic hit much earlier, with commuters browsing deals on their phones on the way to work.”
