‘The Big Toy Rehoming’ Campaign Returns In A Bid To Reduce Plastic Waste & Give Unloved Toys A New Lease Of Life

  • 6,000 un-played with toys rehomed during June thanks to 3 day campaign
  • The Entertainer & Salvation Army Campaign launches again from 5 September – 28 September celebrating International Day of Charity and Recycle Week
The Big Toy Rehoming campaign was launched by The Entertainer, the fastest-growing, family owned high street toy retailer in the UK and successfully found a new home for over 6,000 toys in June 2019 over the course of just 3 days – this is equivalent to 3 tonnes of waste (based on 500 grams per toy).  Following its success, The Big Toy Rehoming is returning to The Entertainer for an extended period, from Thursday 5 September to celebrate International Day of Charity and running throughout September in conjunction with National Recycle Week.

The campaign to give unloved toys a new lease of life and reduce the volume of toys that find their way into household bins is in partnership with The Salvation Army and will run nationally with The Entertainer across its 171 stores.

Families are urged to bring any suitable toys which are no longer played with to their local store and these will be passed to The Salvation Army for rehoming. It provides a great opportunity to de-clutter the toy box as the children head back to school, making more space in the home whilst considering the Environment.

Gary Grant, Founder and Executive Chairman of The Entertainer comments, “After the success of our first Big Toy Rehoming campaign which collected over 6,000 toys, we are thrilled to re-launch the campaign in September with the continued support of The Salvation Army. As a retailer, we’re committed to reducing our plastic waste by extending the lifecycle of toys and supporting the Salvation Army in the process.  We hope that the longer period to drop off toys will encourage more people to become involved with rehoming toys they no longer play with; helping the environment and helping others at the same time.”

Kirk Bradley, Head of Corporate Partnerships at The Salvation Army said: “Donations from the last Big Toy Rehoming campaign hugely helped The Salvation Army in continuing to provide practical and emotional support for vulnerable people in the UK. It’s such a worthwhile cause and we’re looking forward to the public joining in again and hopefully breaking June’s record!”

The Big Toy Rehoming Campaign will run from 5 September until 28 September, in all of The Entertainer stores across the UK. Those looking to donate their toys to The Entertainer don’t need to worry about including packaging, however all toys must have a CE label or marking for safety reasons.  To find out more, please visit www.thetoyshop.com/bigtoyrehoming
