Talks With 100% Design

100% Design’s stellar talks programme, returns with a series of compelling headline talks, trend forecasts and thought-provoking panel discussions.

Running across the 4-day event, Talks with 100% Design promises an engaging array of topics, from urban regeneration to manufacturing and behind the scenes of the furniture industry.

Designed by Project Office, proceedings in the main auditorium space will open on Wednesday September 19th with an ‘in-conversation’, featuring Thomas Heatherwick. Chaired by Max Fraser, Heatherwick will also be joined by Yoo Chairman John Hitchcock and Heatherwick Studio’s Eliot Postma. Exclusively discussing the regeneration of Olympia London for the first-time, the panel willelaborate on upcoming plans and the wider vision for this London landmark. Other headline speakers include Marcel Wanders and Kelly Hoppen.

Danish brand Republic of Fritz Hansen has been producing furniture since 1872. For Talks with 100% Design, Head of Design for the brand Christian Andresen and Studio Roso will explore how Andresen personally develops collaborations alongside designers whilst maintaining the brand DNA, using the ongoing work with Studio Roso as a case study for this.

Designer Ini Archibong is steadily becoming an international design star having launched celebrated collections for Sé and Bernhardt Design. Wallpaper’s Digital Editor Bethan Ryder will uncover and explore Archibong’s recent portfolio of work which is characterised by a deep interest in craftsmanship and integrity as well as a variety of materials, including glass, marble and leather.

Leading architect Farshid Moussavi takes to the stage to explore her current portfolio of work. Moussavi is known for her feminist credentials, having recently spearheaded the ‘Voices of Women’ protest at the Venice Biennale. Colourful star and man of the moment, Yinka Ilori speaks to Helen Parton about his ‘Colour Palace’ triumph in the competition to design the Dulwich Picture Gallery pavilion for 2019. Lighting designer and artist Flynn Talbot will be creating a spectacular lighting installation called ‘Full Spectrum’, as part of the London Design Biennale 2018; Talbot talks to Elissaveta Marinova about the project which will invite visitors to touch and move through the light strands and be surrounded by a rainbow of colours.

One of this year’s Venice Biennale highlights was ReCasting, a collaboration between Alison Brooks Architects and Benchmark. Sean Sutcliffe, Benchmark’s CoFounder and Ceri Edmunds from Alison Brooks Architects will explore this immense project visually and through conversation. From its initial abstract conception, Sutcliffe and Edmunds will discuss the process of realising this installation and bringing methodologies of furniture making to an architectural scale.

Journalist David Michon will chair a session discussing how luxury design is responding to the ever-changing way in which we live. David will be joined by interior designer Suzy Hoodless who most recently created a series of apartments in the newly redeveloped Television Centre, and Rabih Hage, the revered designer behind this year’s Press and VIP lounge at 100% Design.

The Forum Stage will also host a series of lively discussion and debates looking at industry issues, trends and specific areas of focus such as social media, sustainability, materials, home tech and lighting. Sessions will include ‘darc thoughts’ – a snapshot on decorative lighting with Darc Editor Helen Ankers, Christopher Jenner and Cameron Design House. ‘Social Media for Interior Designers’ and Architects is hosted by social media expert Charlene C Lam, Eporta reveal trends in interiors as well as questioning ‘have trends had their day?’ and ‘Design Fresh’ gives ten recent graduates the opportunity to present new products – each with just 3 minutes to explain their concepts.
