Shaftesbury announces Instagram artist, Sophie Tea’s first ever UK art shop in Carnaby

Shaftesbury announces viral Instagram artist, Sophie Tea is coming to London’s iconic Carnaby with the launch of her first ever art shop in the capital, contributing to the wide range of brands in their Carnaby portfolio.

“Carnaby has a curated line up of brands that offer something different. Sophie Tea was hand picked to bring fun and beautiful art to our bright pink shop on Foubert’s Place. The pop up will provide a brilliant additional experience for the Carnaby customer to discover alongside their favourite brands” says Addy Williams, Senior Retail Portfolio Manager, Shaftesbury.

Famous for her colourful nude art that sells within minutes of being posted online, the new shop in the heart of London’s West End follows on from the popularity of numerous solo shows and provides customers and fans the best opportunity to view Sophie’s work in person. Fast becoming a popular worldwide brand, the London shop comes soon after the success of Sophie’s first high street shop opening in Sydney in June 2020, which attracted the attention of top national media.

The ultimate destination for ‘Instagrammable’ photo opportunities the pop-up shop will be bright pink, playful and completely unmissable. Guaranteed to attract VIP fans, influencers and art lovers the minimalist space will feature large scale abstract nude art works and sculptures while stunning installation walls will act as the perfect selfie backdrop.

Opening up original art to first time art buyers the shop will stock art and merchandise from Sophie’s current collections featuring abstract hearts and colourful nudes from the ‘Send Nudes’ collection. The venue will play host to some of Sophie’s infamous art show parties and also act as an inspiring space to host everything from interactive seminars and panel discussions for women to body confidence workshops, life drawing classes and live painting sessions.

Sophie Tea said: “I can’t quite believe I have my own shop in London; it’s an incredible opportunity to venture from the virtual world of Instagram to the physical high street. I’m excited to bring my own slice of the Instagram art world to Carnaby, create immersive experiences for visitors and engage with people on a deeper level.”

Adhering to social distancing guidelines, the shop will be opened on a pre-book basis. With a legion of celebrity and VIP fans, Sophie is a rebel in the art industry operating solely out of Instagram. Amassing a loyal 111k following she has established herself as one of London’s hottest artists turning over more than a million in sales last year, and earlier this year had a record breaking sales month.

The shop is the latest venture from Sophie whose popularity is increasingly reaching beyond social media and gaining recognition in the established art world. In April this year, she was a featured artist in the Saatchi Art Club, a digital learning platform and interactive forum for contemporary art on the Gallery’s Instagram Live. Sophie was also proudly one of the featured artists in the ‘HerStory’ exhibition earlier this year at Maddox Gallery in Mayfair, London.

Visit the Sophie Tea shop at 5-7 Foubert’s Place, Carnaby, W1 from 31 st July 2020.
