Openpay to #payitforward and Donate Christmas Party Cost to retailTRUST

  • Openpay wants to support retail workers facing a tough Christmas
  • With seasonal parties almost certain to be cancelled, the company is to use their festive kitty to make a donation to retailTRUST
  • Managing Director Andy Harding calls on other industry partners to follow suit and support peers who may be struggling

Openpay, a next-generation, interest-free payment solution, has announced that it will be gifting the usual cost of this year’s Christmas party to the retailTRUST. The donation will enable the charity to support those working and retired from the retail industry who have been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With pandemic related restrictions likely to continue into December in some form, Christmas festivities will feel very different this year for most of us. Openpay has decided that the best course of action is to cancel its usual celebrations and instead support a charity close to its heart.

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, but particularly for people who make their living from retail. Over 140,000 workers in the sector have lost their livelihood from the ongoing impacts of the pandemic and will be facing a much quieter Christmas than usual.

Andy Harding, UK Managing Director of Openpay, said:

“The wellbeing of the retail industry and, most importantly, our retail industry colleagues, has never been so critical. Openpay is determined to support people across the sector who are facing a challenging Christmas.  So, instead of our usual company Christmas celebrations, this year, we will #payitforward.

“Openpay will be gifting the usual cost of our festive frivolities to retailTRUST who will use it to support retail workers who truly need it this Christmas. There is strength in numbers, so we hope that we can encourage others to do the same and #payitforward.”
