Nexus Supports Morrisons in Scaling Up Operations

Nexus Vehicle Rental has supplied over 500 vehicles to supermarket chain, Morrisons, to support the retailer in meeting consumer needs throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

As businesses up and down the country battle new and unique challenges, retailers – particularly supermarkets – are experiencing unprecedented demand for home deliveries. Morrisons needed to rapidly scale up its fleet, requiring a large volume of vehicles to be delivered to its stores nationwide within a very short space of time.

Whilst managing the complexities presented by the outbreak of COVID-19, Nexus was able to source the vehicles requested – due to the breadth and national footprint of its supply chain – and agree a fulfilment plan with the retailer within 24 hours of contact, allowing for a smooth onboarding process.

The additional vehicles will enable Morrisons to increase deliveries to its customers each day, especially the elderly and vulnerable who are in close proximity of the retailer’s stores but unable to visit.

Lindsay Prescott, Procurement Manager at Morrisons, said: “In order to support our most vulnerable customers during this difficult time, Morrisons launched the Doorstep Delivery service, enabling our store Community Champions to deliver essential shopping to the customer’s door. In order to achieve this we urgently needed vans, and Nexus provided us with first class service to help turn this around in record time.”

David Brennan, CEO at Nexus Vehicle Rental, commented: “Essential services in a variety of industries now urgently require access to flexible mobility supply networks to serve distributed communities across the country.

“Morrisons needed a rental supplier that could source and secure a large number of vans to add to its fleet, which Nexus was able to fulfil at short notice. For those retailers, couriers, logistics and utilities companies needing to rapidly scale up operations whilst mitigating costs, the options available through vehicle rental provide a timely, practical, cost-effective solution, enabling businesses to keep moving in these difficult times.”

Nexus has built up the UK’s largest supply chain and its pioneering technology, IRIS, connects businesses to more than 550,000 vehicles across 2,000 locations, including EVs, specialist and commercial vehicles and HGVs.

As additional safeguarding measures and restrictions are put in place across the UK, Nexus can continue to provide cars, vans, trucks and HGVs to ensure the UK’s key workers are mobile and essential services such as food deliveries are able to continue.
