New flagship River Island store opens in Grosvenor Shopping Northampton

Legal & General’s ‘Grow’ campaign has also been implemented at the shopping centre

LGIM Real Assets (Legal & General) announces that one of Britain’s most exciting and relevant fashion retailers, River Island, has opened at Grosvenor Shopping Northampton and will operate over 11,000 sq. ft. and two trading levels of space.

The opening maintains the shopping centre’s drive to deliver a more diverse and compelling shopping experience following the centre’s substantial refurbishment in 2015. The addition of River Island also swells the Grosvenor Shopping Northampton’s portfolio of high-profile tenants, and means that more than 95 per cent of the centre’s shop units are trading.

With over 60 years of fashion retailing experience, River Island is considered to be one of the most well-known men’s and women’s fashion brands on the High Street. It operates from 260 stores across the UK, Ireland as well as internationally throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

James Whitehill, Senior Fund Manager at LGIM Real Assets, said: “River Island is a household name and one of the most popular, exciting, relevant and well-known high street brands. The fact it will be operating across two floors in a central location in the mall will really add to the shopping experience at Grosvenor Shopping Northampton.”

A River Island representative said: “The new flagship River Island store will provide a fantastic fashion experience for visitors to Northampton. This latest opening is part of River Island’s plans to have a presence in the best locations, at the best retail and leisure schemes, and Grosvenor Shopping Northampton undoubtedly falls into that category. We’re keen to continue to innovate the in-store experience we provide, and are looking forward to expanding and showcasing our latest products and in-store concepts to the community ahead of winter.”

Grosvenor Shopping Northampton is also building on its promise to build its independent retail portfolio and following its success at Cambridge, Legal & General’s ‘Grow’ campaign was introduced at Grosvenor Shopping Northampton at the beginning of September. The four-week application process attracted 26 applications – amongst them a unique and vintage fashion concept, a healthy takeaway restaurant, a high-end beauty salon and a community café – and the finalists will be selected in time for the beginning of November.

‘Grow’represents the latest step by Legal & General to respond to the evolution of the retail market and work in partnership with local retailers to deliver a more compelling shopping experience. Its debut pilot, Grow at The Grafton, attracted a great deal of interest and the winner and runner-up are set to open their units in November.
