McColl’s steps up to support Great Ormond Street Hospital staff

To show their support for the NHS and the invaluable service its staff continue to provide, McColl’s is today pledging to provide essential food and goods to staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for free.

As GOSH increases its hospital beds and its capacity to help free up other London hospitals to focus on treating coronavirus patients, McColl’s want to do their bit by providing store-cupboard and fridge essentials to GOSH staff to take home after a day’s shift so they have one less thing to worry about.

They know many families across the UK rely on the excellent, specialist care provided by GOSH and McColl’s look forward to providing their hardworking staff with a range of goods including sandwiches, bread, milk, eggs, biscuits, tea and coffee.

This support builds on McColl’s charity partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity), launched in October 2019. The partnership aims to raise £1million over the next three years to help fund the refurbishment of parent accommodation, just across the road from GOSH, which will help bring families closer together when a child is receiving treatment. They are already well on their way to this target, having raised c.£250,000 to date.

And to help the NHS further, McColl’s are also providing coffee free of charge for all NHS workers, which is available at Costa Coffee, Lavazza and Nescafe machines at hundreds of McColl’s stores.

Jonathan Miller, Chief Executive, McColl’s, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be supporting GOSH as it increases its capacity to help London hospitals to focus on treating coronavirus patients. Our colleagues care greatly about supporting their local communities and we know many families across the UK rely on the excellent, specialist care provided by GOSH, now more so than ever. We are delighted we can support the staff by providing essential food and goods to take home after a day’s shift.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our colleagues who are working incredibly hard to keep the neighbourhood communities we serve supplied with the food, goods and services they need on a daily basis. I am immensely proud of some of the local initiatives that individual stores have implemented, from reserving and managing pre-order and pick-up for NHS workers to reaching out and safely delivering goods to elderly and vulnerable customers.”

Louise Parkes, Chief Executive of GOSH Charity, said:

“We are hugely grateful to our partner McColl’s for generously donating essential products to the hard-working staff at GOSH. Their support will mean hospital staff can more easily keep their store cupboards stocked after they finish their busy shifts caring for some of the UK’s most seriously ill children. At what is an unprecedented time for us all, I would like to extend our warmest thanks to McColl’s for their support and their amazing ongoing fundraising efforts too.”
