Knitcraft by Hobbycraft launches sustainable ‘Make the Change’ yarn for eco-friendly crafting

Knitcraft by Hobbycraft launches an eco-friendly alternative to classic DK yarn, ‘Make the Change’. It centres on a more sustainable approach to crafting, introducing a yarn made from recycled plastic bottles, with a blend of 85% recycled polyester and 15% recycled acrylic.

It is available in-store and online at £3 per ball, with a colour palette of eight on-trend, modern shades (grey, denim, biscuit, mustard, lilac, duck egg blue, green and cream).

The yarn is perfect for a huge range of knitting and crochet projects – from DIY garments, homeware and children’s makes, the possibilities are endless and will ensure to help customers make a simple change in the way they craft.

Hobbycraft has introduced this yarn as the appetite for Knitting and Crochet continues to grow in 2022. It is no surprise that over the past few years, textile work has slowly but surely been threading its way into the fabric of popular culture thanks to the likes of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube tutorials and celebrities such as Tom Daley, who was seen crocheting in the stands at the Olympics last year. In April’22 versus March’ 22, the ‘Knitting and Crochet’ range on Hobbycraft.co.uk has seen sales increase by 107%, and searches for ‘crochet yarn’ and ‘knitting wool’ increased by 80% and 98% respectively.

For any beginners wanting to learn how to knit or crochet, Hobbycraft has a Beginners Guide to Crochet Workshop and Beginners Guide to Knitting Workshop, aimed at teaching customers the basic skills to begin stitch beautiful designs.

Launching alongside the yarn is a selection of Make the Change patterns, consisting of classic cardigans and jumpers to homewares and baby knits. The collection focuses on garments that customers can wear again and again.
