The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is calling on the nation to help beat the heartbreak caused by heart and circulatory diseases, by joining its Reuse Revolution.

This October, the BHF is asking renters, homeowners, interior enthusiasts and bargain hunters to shop sustainably for furniture and homewares by visiting one of its 180 home stores across the UK, helping to support its vital work.

Also supporting the campaign is Annie Sloan, creators of Chalk Paint™, who want to help champion the upcycling of furniture in order to raise money and help the environment.

Last year, the BHF reused and recycled over 41,000 tonnes of furniture and electrical products by giving them a new lease of life, as items for sale in its home stores. This included saving 130,000 sofas and 50,000 TVs from going to waste, which helped prevent 52,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions being released into the atmosphere.

To join the Reuse Revolution, the BHF is asking those looking to give their home a refresh or style update this autumn to visit their local BHF store for home furnishings.

From pre-loved furniture to pieces that can be easily transformed with upcycling tricks, shoppers will be amazed at the quality and affordability of the unique finds available in BHF stores.

The BHF is inviting those joining the sustainability movement to share their finds on social media by tagging @the_BHF, using the #BoughtAtBHF hashtag and finish the sentence: “I love shopping at the BHF because…”. Participants who post between October 1st and 31stwill be entered into our competition* and have the chance to win £250 to spend on Annie Sloan products.

Annie Sloan, founder of the Oxfordshire based company best known for Chalk Paint™ said: “I’m thrilled to be working with the British Heart Foundation to inspire people to reuse old pieces of furniture. It’s easier than ever to stylishly furnish your home both sustainably and on a budget, and by buying from the British Heart Foundation you’re also raising funds for live-saving research.”

Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director at the BHF, said: “I want to encourage shoppers to join the Reuse Revolution and think sustainably when it comes to furnishing their homes. I personally love seeing BHF pieces in their stylish new settings and am always amazed by our customers’ creativity when it comes to upcycling items.

“This initiative shows our impact goes beyond raising funds for heart research. Our shops are helping to find new homes for thousands of household items at the same time as preventing unnecessary waste and carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere. Joining the Reuse Revolution is win-win for the environment, furnishing your home affordably, and for the fight against heart and circulatory disease.”

BHF home stores offer the perfect sustainable solution for shoppers searching for furniture, electricals and homewares on a budget, with sofas from £95, beds from £65 and wardrobes from £40.

Turning reuse into breakthroughs, last year the BHF homes stores helped to raise around £30 million to fund research into new treatments for heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia and diabetes.

By joining the Reuse Revolution now you can help the BHF save more items from landfill and help save lives.
