Hundreds of eggs donated by Co-op customers

Baskets were overflowing this Easter as hundreds of donations of eggs were made to Children’s Hospice South West.

Collections for the North Somerset hospice were being made across Southern Co-op’s convenience stores ahead of the long weekend.

Customers across Bristol, Stoke Gifford, Hanham, Pill, Keynsham, Bath, Portishead, Bedminster and Corsham all donated to the cause and more than 200 were donated in total.

Nigel Comer, Area Business Manager, said: “The hospice is a charity partner of a number of our stores and it does incredible things for children who are facing huge challenges.

“When we started the collections, we had no idea how generous people would be. It is really special to be able to put a smile on a child’s face with gifts like these.

“We would like to thank everyone involved. Our communities are so generous.”

Children’s Hospice South West cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their families by providing respite care and short breaks, as well as emergency, palliative and end of life care from its three hospices.

Earlier this year, a £5,000 donation for 18 new bikes was given to the hospice by the retail stores which are part of Southern Co-op – a regional, independent co-operative.

Amanda Gallagher, Corporate Fundraiser at Charlton Farm, added: “We rely on fundraising for almost all of our income, so backing from companies like Southern Co-op is essential in enabling us to continue our work.

“We care for around 500 families across the South West so this support will make a real difference to their lives.”

Southern Co-op’s stores supported the children’s hospice as part of its community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.

This initiative addresses four key social themes for promoting: ‘Greener’, ‘Healthier’, ‘Safer’, and ‘More Inclusive’ neighbourhoods.
