HMY JOINS ‘EARTH HOUR’

  • All of HMY’s production lines and luminous signs at its factories in Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Brazil and France, as well as at its corporate headquarters, will turn off this Saturday March 30th for one hour, as a sign of awareness and support for the fight against climate change.
  • Earth Hour 2019 is an initiative promoted by WWF and has become the largest global action in defense of the environment known so far.

HMY will join tomorrow, for an “Earth Hour” initiative, promoted by the environmental organization WWF to curb global warming. The installations that the company has distributed around the world will stop and turn off their lighting between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, as a sign of their commitment to the movement.

Specifically, the production centers of HMY in Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Brazil and France will be taking part, as well as its corporate headquarters. With the participation in this movement, HMY seeks to involve all its professionals and its family members around the world, encouraging them to join the initiative by not using electric lights in their homes during the “Earth Hour”.

This campaign, organised by WWF, began its journey in 2007 as a call to action for environmental defenders at an international level. The movement has achieved the participation of more than 35,000 companies, 200 million people and more than 7,000 cities and towns in 178 countries. Thousands of companies and educational centers from all over the world come together every year to demonstrate that a future based on clean energies is possible.

Commitment to the environment

HMY’s commitment to the environment, reflected in its Strategic Plan for Sustainability 2018-2020, lies in the application of innovative processes with the aim of creating more eco-efficient solutions. The objective that translates into cleaner production, environmental management systems, measures oriented to the life cycle of the product and preparation of monitoring reports.

In this way, the company is committed to using raw materials that come from less polluting sources and sustainable management, which allow its reintroduction into the production chain through recycling. Also, the company devotes special care to the design of its materials and packaging to achieve, with less energy consumption, more efficient products and a longer life.

In addition, HMY has implemented sustainable measures in each of its facilities and production processes to reduce the impact of carbon on the planet through the reduction of waste, energy, water consumption and CO2 emissions produced by its production processes. As a result, the 15 factories that the company has in the world have received numerous environmental certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, SMETA, etc.). Following in this direction, the company aims to increase its consumption of clean and renewable energy by five per cent each year, and reduce its carbon footprint by 15 per cent over the next three years.
