Growing retailer takes on seven former Bathstore units, saving 50 industry jobs

UK bathroom retailer, Easy Bathrooms, has invested upwards of £700,000 and saved more than 50 jobs in the bathroom industry, following the procurement of seven former Bathstore units.

Bathstore – which went into administration in 2019 – closed more than 90 showrooms across the UK, following difficult trading conditions. Easy Bathrooms, which was founded in 2012, has since taken on the leases of seven stores, including Sheffield, Sale, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Basildon, Bristol and Harlow. It has also seen the growing bathroom retailer take on 50 staff from Bathstore since its collapse, with 30 people already in the business prior to its administration.

Three more former Bathstore properties are also in Easy Bathrooms’ showroom pipeline.

With a total headcount of 360 people across 55 stores, it means that more than 20% of Easy Bathrooms’ staff are former Bathstore employees. The firm has also taken on two leases from Better Bathrooms, which also collapsed in 2019, including Glasgow and Romford.

The company’s expansion plans have seen them open an average of one store per month for three years and reach a turnover of £33,349,000 in 2019 – an increase of 60% on 2018’s £20,792,000 turnover.

Pre-Covid-19, the firm was on target to reach a turnover in excess of £50million for 2020.

Craig Waddington founded the company in Leeds in 2012. Commenting on the growth, he said: “I am humbled and extremely proud of the team we have built; who believe in what we are doing with the Easy Bathrooms brand. I believe that the combination of our products, our service and our pricing are what stands us apart in the bathroom market, and I’m delighted that our growth continues to create jobs across the UK.

“The current Covid-19 situation is the toughest economic situation that the UK has faced in modern times and it impacts every single business. We have solid foundations which will help us to assist the UK’s economic recovery, and we’ll keep moving forward.”
