Fun and face painting in Stoke Gifford

Despite gloomy weather predictions, the rain held off just long enough for Stoke Gifford residents to enjoy an afternoon of fundraising.

Friends and families enjoyed music, food and activities for the Fun Day at The Co-operative Food – Stoke Gifford in aid Children’s Hospice South West.

Around 50 people got involved with a range of activities from face painting, live music and children’s characters at the free event on Saturday 28 September in North Road.

Alex Whitton, Duty Manager at the Stoke Gifford store, said: “We are part of Southern Co-op – the independent, local co-operative – so we are always looking for ways to support our community. When the idea of a Fun Day came up, we thought why not!

“It was a lot of organising but it was a fantastic day. The weather forecasts made us really nervous but we are so glad we went ahead.

“It was really nice to be out in the community. All of us ended up having our face painted. We haven’t added up the final total raised yet but we hope it is going to be enough to make a difference to the hospice. It is such a special place.”

A fundraising raffle and Guess the Sweets in the Jar competition are continuing until today [Friday 4 October] to raise more funding for Children’s Hospice South West.

The North Somerset hospice cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their families by providing respite care and short breaks, as well as emergency, palliative and end of life care from its three hospices.

The Co-operative Food store is supporting the children’s hospice as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.

This initiative enables colleagues to support local causes through donations, fundraising and volunteering and aims to help neighbourhoods become greener, healthier, safe or more inclusive.
