Following its collaboration with students from the University of Brighton, Forbo Flooring Systems is excited to introduce The Forbo Collection at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW). This one-off collection comprises three innovative garments made from Forbo’s Flotex, Marmoleum and Tessera floor coverings to showcase its portfolio in a unique and exciting way.

The Forbo Collection, which has been designed by students on the Fashion Design and Fashion Communication with Business Studies courses, embodies the collision of urban and nature, while showing how natural, sustainable materials and technically innovated materials can work together. The three specially crafted garments constructed from Forbo’s materials, both raw and finished, will be showcased in Forbo’s showroom on St John Street.

Craig Higgins, Course Leader of BA(Hons) Fashion with Business Studies, at the University of Brighton, says: “Forbo has provided our Fashion and Fashion Communication students with an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration on a live brief. Designing and creating The Forbo Collection for CDW has allowed our students to use fashion as a dynamic communication tool to highlight the qualities of Forbo’s floor coverings.”

Visitors will see the story of The Forbo Collection first hand, as the showroom will provide not only the finished products, but also the inspirations and behind the scenes story of this unique collaboration. The Fashion Communication students’ photography will be present in the showroom alongside the Fashion Design students’ concept sketches, mood boards and overall project development works. What’s more, not only will visitors to the Forbo showroom be able to view the students’ designs, but they will also get the chance to take away a piece of this collaborative story in the form of a zine made by the students themselves.

Mark Wells, Course Leader of BA(Hons) Fashion Communication with Business Studies, comments: “Our students have been able to collaborate with Forbo to conceive and produce a whole range of promotional materials and multi-platform activities in a real-world environment where they have learnt to understand the value of their unique skills and knowledge.”

Forbo’s commitment to supporting and encouraging up and coming talent from young creatives is the drive behind this collaborative story. Giving these students the chance to showcase their innovative and visionary ways of thinking and showing their creative process is something Forbo is proud to display. Flotex Product Manager, Chloe Taylor comments, “We’re very excited to see the extraordinary, diverse range of concept ideas that have been put forward by out talented team and The University of Brighton. We’re now all looking forward to a very lively CDW 2019 and hoping to welcome lots of industry professionals through our showroom doors for what promises to be a very tactile and interactive experience, promoted in a fresh and exciting way!”
