Dunelm Raises Over £1.2m for Macmillan Cancer Support

This World Cancer Day, Dunelm, a homewares retailer, has brought its staff together to celebrate raising over £1.2M for Macmillan Cancer Support following a two-year fundraising partnership.

15 Dunelm colleagues appear, remotely from across the country, in the motivational video, in support of Macmillan’s latest campaign ‘Whatever It Takes’ and to celebrate Dunelm’s fundraising achievements to date.

In February 2019, Dunelm pledged to raise £1 million for Macmillan, which could fund 17 Macmillan professionals for one year. As well as nurses, Macmillan’s professionals range from Physiotherapists, Phycologists, Financial Advisors, Speech Therapists and Family Support Workers who all work with people following a cancer diagnosis to help them live life as fully as they can.

Dunelm’s colleagues have taken part in local and national fundraising events, from record breaking attempts and fancy-dress days, to braving the shave and sponsored walks, including Macmillan’s infamous Mighty Hike, from which staff raised £40K. To maximise fundraising, Dunelm matched funded the amount raised on the hike making the grand total £80K.

In addition to its match funding scheme, Dunelm has been donating 5p from every cup of tea sold through its coffee shop brand, Pausa, to the charity, as well as selling Macmillan fundraising merchandise in 175 of its stores. Over Christmas, the stores sold Macmillan Christmas cards and QR codes at till points continued to drive donations from customers.

Despite COVID, Dunelm stores continued to raise awareness of the partnership through their individual community support Facebook groups.

Speaking about the partnership, Nick Wilkinson, CEO at Dunelm said: “We wanted to do something special to celebrate the people who have made this incredible fundraising milestone possible, our colleagues. They have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of our partnership and Macmillan’s new brand campaign ‘Whatever It Takes’ aptly sums up the approach from our team.

This World Cancer Day we celebrate the £1.2M we’ve raised to date, but most importantly, Macmillan Cancer Support and the incredible work they do.”
