On Thursday 7 November, Shaftesbury and ocean conservation charity Project ZERO welcomed visitors to Carnaby London to celebrate the launch of Christmas at the Carnaby Christmas Shopping Party. Thousands of shoppers attended the free, experiential event, with over 100 brands offering 20% discount, complimentary gifts and in-store activations on the night. Visitors also revelled at the unveiling of the 100% sustainable, ocean-themed light installation, which was switched on by The Rolling Stones legend, Ronnie Wood.

Visitors shopped beneath the striking, oceanic scenes and an array of sea animals encircling the Carnaby Street arch, adorned with the powerful message One Ocean One Planet, a collaboration with ocean conservation charity Project ZERO. Guests were treated to free ‘Carnaby Sea Breezer’ and ‘The Mermaid’ cocktails and were also offered complimentary, underwater-themed makeovers using 100% biodegradable, cruelty-free glitter at the Eco Glitter Fun station. The event was hosted by Alex Zane, with DJs Leah Wood and Izy Rekiel providing the soundtrack for the night with energetic, live sets.

Carnaby retailers ensured it was an experiential event like no other, with the likes of coveted international brands Diesel, ba&sh, The Kooples, MONKI and Columbia Sportswear as well as British icons Paul Smith, Ben Sherman and Barbour all participating on the night with one off retail experiences. Benefit welcomed beautylovers to their 70s themed Glam Grotto whilst shoppers got creative with t-shirt printing at RÆBURN. Shoppers were also treated to live in-store music at the likes of M.A.C, MOSCOT, Levi’s, The Rum Kitchen and Carnaby newcomers Napapijri. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced with Le Bab’s exclusive ‘Christmas in NY Sour’ cocktail and the launch of Bread Ahead’s new Christmas doughnut, exclusively for the event.

Simon Quayle, Shaftesbury Director says: “We are thrilled to officially launch Christmas in Carnaby with this sustainable light installation, a powerful message for both Londoners and visitors alike. With open-air live music and over 100 retail and F&B tenants taking part, the event created a unique customer experience, kickstarting the Christmas trading season in London.”

Michele Clarke, Project ZERO, Founder says: “Project ZERO is enormously grateful to Carnaby for partnering with us to create an exclusive, never before imagined take on their iconic Christmas. The ocean is our planet’s life support system, and it is being ravaged by climate change, overfishing and pollution. The Carnaby x Project ZERO Christmas installation is an inspiring way to give the ocean major visibility, to remind people of its incredible beauty and life-giving properties. We couldn’t be more excited for the world to enjoy this gorgeous celebration of the ocean, all the creatures that live in it, and everything the ocean does to sustain life on Earth.”

The never-before-seen light installation is in collaboration with ocean conservation charity Project ZERO, with each section of Carnaby Street representing an area of the ocean in need of conservation, starting with the floating kelp ‘forest’, through the bright pink coral and ending in the deep sea.
