Bossa Nova rolls out an additional 650 robots in its biggest expansion yet

Global retail data service provider, Bossa Nova has announced that its in-store inventory technology will be rolled out to an additional 650 Walmart stores across North America in 2020.

The rollout expands on the current 350 stores where its robots had been implemented and marks a significant boost of confidence in the technology. Trials are currently underway across the UK and Europe.

The coverage coincides with the announcement of Bossa Nova 2020, a newly designed next-generation solution to provide actionable insights for the whole store, which was on display at NRF 2020 in New York City.

Through a combination of artificial intelligence and automation, Bossa Nova 2020’s slimmer form enables it to navigate narrow aisles and openings of medium and small-format stores. The new robot expands on the company’s previous technology in offering Real-Time State of the Store™ insights.

Building on the success of previous generations, the expanded intelligence capabilities into fresh food, frozen food and apparel departments widen the application of the Bossa Nova 2020 to provide inventory insight for the whole store.

Through a combination of its smart 2D and 3D camera array and industry-leading AI stack, Bossa Nova 2020 delivers even more accurate and reliable data to retailers at speed. The custom-designed camera with multi-focus, high-speed and high-resolution optics enables visibility across the full shelf depth, allowing the capture of more information with each pass of the aisle. Image processing begins in-camera and ends with AI in the cloud, meaning insight can be processed and delivered more quickly and accurately.

In order to support its largest expansion yet, Bossa Nova has formed a partnership with NCR, a global enterprise technology company, to manage its retail robotics integrations. The partnership will ensure that its expanding fleets maintain a high level of operability and service to Bossa Nova’s clients.
