Bloomingdale’s looks to the Stars for an Out of This World Holiday

The retailer’s spaced themed campaign will come to life through holiday windows, themed gift shops, in-store experiences and a special performance by artist John Legend

The countdown to a stellar holiday season begins as Bloomingdale’s looks to the stars and draws galactic inspiration for the iconic retailer’s holiday campaign, An Out of This World Holiday. This season Bloomingdale’s is gift mission control and makes finding the perfect gift even easier and fun with carefully curated gift shops, exclusive product, and special animation. Space explorers who visit Bloomingdale’s will see the campaign come to life with one-of a-kind in-store activations and a super nova holiday window unveiling performance by award winning singer John Legend. Legend will perform material from the expanded version of his first Christmas album, A LEGENDARY CHRISTMAS: THE DELUXE EDITION which is due out on November 8th.

Over 50 years ago humankind looked to the moon and the impossible became possible with the monumental lunar landing. Inspired by the 50th anniversary of the occasion Bloomingdale’s is excited to announce a campaign that pays tribute to the excitement, romance, and imagination of space travel. An Out Of This World Holiday campaign brings the mystery of the cosmos to earth and comes to life through iridescent holographic shopping bags, gift boxes, and a special catalog featuring Bloomingdale’s favorite items of the season. Inside the pages models float in a zero gravity environment while rocking the best of holiday, and gift guides make it easier to find something for everyone on your list. One stand out spread is Coats Encounters; shot on location at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center featuring the season’s most stylish outerwear and a backdrop of rockets bound for the stars.

“We gravitated toward this theme because Bloomingdale’s is all about bringing the best product to our customers in fun and exciting ways. What could be more exciting and whimsical than imagining how our out of this world product would come to life among the stars,” said Frank Berman, Bloomingdale’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “Beyond gifts we are excited to see this theme in interactive experiences throughout our stores and a holiday window unveiling making visiting Bloomingdale’s not just a place to shop but a destination.”

This year, Bloomingdale’s will draw inspiration from its holiday campaign to create “Out of This World Windows” on Lexington Avenue. The iconic window displays will be unveiled on Friday, November 22nd at 6:15pm with a performance by award winning artist and superstar, John Legend. This is the second time Legend has performed at the unveiling tradition which in the past has welcomed performers including: Idina Menzel, Sara Bareilles, Zendaya and Tony Bennett.

Those unable to join the unveiling in person will be able to tune into Facebook live to view the performance in real time. After the unveiling customers are invited to join the in-store festivities as Bloomingdale’s 59th Street celebrates Like No Other Store in the World.

Bloomingdale’s has a long history of viewing retail as theatre and inviting customers to experience it in person. From the legendary Around the World merchandised shops to iconic entertainment partnerships, Bloomingdale’s is excited to look to the stars and bring a celestial celebration to life in-store. This winter the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship and select stores nationwide will present free in-store, interactive activations allowing visitors to be part of this retail theatre. Activations include Ralph’s Winter Wonderland polar ice bar, Daily Harvest Latte Counter coffee sampling, virtual reality space experiences and the GE “C-ing is Believing Experience” which features over 800 C by GE full Color Smart bulbs for a journey to the cosmos. Visitors can also meet Santa Claus and his elves through December 23rd at the Bloomingdale’s holiday shop.

No matter where a shopper is in the universe shopping for a good cause is always in fashion. This holiday season customers can give back by purchasing the collectable Bloomingdale’s Little Brown Bear who is back from space and dressed in an astronaut space suit. For every Little Brown Bear purchased at the regular price of $20 Bloomingdale’s will make a $4 donation to the retailer’s long-standing holiday charity partner, Child Mind Institute (CMI) – an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the partnership between Bloomingdale’s and CMI. The retailer is proud to have supported CMI over the past decade by donating philanthropic dollars and bringing awareness to the amazing work the nonprofit does in supporting children when and where they need it most. The opportunity to give back goes even further from November 1st, 2019- December 31st, 2019 with customers having the opportunity to round their in-store purchase up to the nearest dollar with the difference being donated directly to CMI.
