Batman helps Mill Gate Shopping Centre raise more than £1000 for One Great Day charity initiative

On Saturday 15th June, Mill Gate Shopping Centre Bury took part in One Great Day, an opportunity to raise money for local Forget Me Not children’s hospice Grace’s Place and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

The local community was invited to come together at the centre to get involved in a day of family fun and charity challenges. Children and families, even staff and retailers were encouraged to come dressed as their favourite superheroes to meet Batman who arrived in the amazing Bat Tumbler. Children (and their parents) had the chance to meet the caped crusader, get a closer look at the Bat Tumbler and have a picture with Batman. Plus, one lucky young man even won the chance to sit in the vehicle.

On the day there was also a host of other activities to keep people entertained including face painting and free access to the playframe at Go Wild Bury Play Centre.

Marie Gribben, Mill Gate Shopping Centre Manager said “The local community is at the heart of everything we do and we are really passionate about supporting great causes in the area. We were overwhelmed by the support shown to this initiative and with almost £1000 taken in donations in the centre on the day and over £200 donated online already we are really proud to be able to make a difference in young people’s lives.”

Angela Wild, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Regional Fundraiser said “Grace’s Place were delighted to have taken part in this amazing day.  Our invaluable Volunteers supported with bucket collections, teddy tombola stalls.  Maddison Peacock and Annalise Browne aged 15 years old entertained everyone with their fabulous singing.  It was a truly wonderful event and could not have don’t this without the fabulous support from the Centre, Volunteers, entertainers and supporters.  Thank you to everyone who helped to make a difference for our local children we care for and their families.”

The centre management team also did their bit raising funds for the charity. Working in partnership with Bury Council who provided everything needed, the team collected rubbish in and around the town centre.

Having raised £1,750 last year the centre is looking to beat that target this year, people wishing to contribute to the cause can still donate online at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Mill-Gate
