After more than a year of the coronavirus pandemic providing unprecedented challenges to the retail sector, JYSK, the global Danish homeware retailer, sets out its plans to drive forward with its next phase of international expansion.

The company wholeheartedly believes in the future of physical retail, and in its upcoming financial year commencing September 2021, JYSK will carry out ten store activities in the UK alone, with at least two new stores planned before the end of December, and several more stores due to be updated to the newest JYSK store concept 3.0. The company’s rapid plans for growth are echoed internationally, with a further 1,000 store activities including 200 new stores planned across Europe in the upcoming year.

“As the UK continues to emerge from the restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are seeing increasing confidence from customers to come and shop back in store once again”, comments Country Manager for JYSK in the UK, Roni Tuominen. “It’s the perfect time for us to push forward with full throttle on our plans for expansion within the UK market. Alongside introducing JYSK to some exciting new locations in the UK, we’re investing significantly in upgrading several more of our stores to our latest store concept 3.0, bringing a fresh new look and enhanced customer experience to our shoppers.”

JYSK sees great value in the UK market, with demand for affordable and stylish homewares continuing to boom. The five new UK store locations for 2021 will see the company contribute significantly to local economies, with investment valued at £28 million over the next ten years.

Meanwhile, recent sales data from the company shows that on average, JYSK stores operating in the latest concept design have seen sales increase by as much as 20%. JYSK has set itself the target of updating all its stores globally to the newest store concept by the end of 2024, which will involve approximately 1,000 store activities each year and an investment of several 100 million EUR.

As part of the brand’s ongoing expansion, landlords with available properties of 13,500 – 15,000 sq. ft. are encouraged to reach out to JYSK’s property development manager Beth Piggott at bpi@jysk.com.
