Zalando presents vision of mobile shopping with fashion concept car

 

 

  • Concept car that scans clothes worn by passers-by and finds them to purchase online

Online fashion retailer, Zalando, is presenting its vision for the future of online retailing and mobile commerce with its first fashion concept car at the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva.

The Zalando fashion concept car takes mobile shopping to the next level: allowing spot, identify, order, pick up. Using an augmented reality app especially designed for Zalando, outfits worn by passers-by are recognised by an integrated iPad camera within the car and can be ordered directly from the Zalando online shop.

 

Once the order has been processed, it is then delivered using an in-built GPS tracking system straight to your car – wherever it happens to be. The car also boasts a mobile changing room, meaning that purchased outfits can be modelled in an instant, and a ‘fashion box’ providing the ideal storage solution for purchases.

 

Christian Meermann, Chief Marketing Officer at Zalando, said: “As an innovative eCommerce company, mobile commerce is not just a thing of the future for us – our Zalando app already enables customers to place orders from their smartphones. With our fashion concept car, we are going one step further and expressing our vision of mobile shopping development over the next five years, when customers can place orders from their car as easily as from their sofa using their iPad.”

 

Meermann describes the motivation behind the Zalando fashion concept car as ‘the constant search for the perfect shopping experience’.  He added: “Our services already make us a forerunner in this field but we believe the Zalando fashion car also fulfills the needs of the customer of tomorrow. We focused on time, which plays a huge role in today’s hectic society, but also on the fun and playfulness we like to involve in digital shopping and on continued transparency in our offers and prices.”

 

The custom-designed app was developed by the leading augmented reality technology expert, Wikitude.  Andy Gstoll, Chief Marketing Officer at Wikitude, said:  “We were thrilled when Zalando first approached us to develop this innovative concept and vision with them. The combination of mobility, connectivity and augmented reality has the potential of changing the way we will shop for fashion in the future.”

 

The Zalando fashion concept car will be displayed at the show in Geneva until the 17th March.
