Verifone VX 680 with contactless certified for Spain

VeriFone has announced Spanish availability of the VX 680 – one of the smallest, full-function, portable handheld payment devices – following its successful certification by Redsys.

The PCI PTS 3.0 compliant VX 680 offers Spanish merchants full contactless and NFC acceptance as well as enhanced speed, integration and functionality – to bring new levels of convenience to their customers.

Country availability of the VX 680 coincides with major contactless trials, funding and awareness initiatives from card issuers and banks to drive wide-scale consumer adoption of ‘wave and pay’ in Spanish cities.

According to Alan Moss, vice president of marketing, VeriFone, “The device will be welcomed by Spanish merchants who want to take advantage of current market incentives to upgrade their POS with the latest contactless devices to deliver faster, more user-friendly payment services to their customers.”

In addition to accepting EMV debit, credit and contactless payments, the VX 680 features a full colour display, touch screen interactivity and extended memory to deliver value-added applications such as loyalty, coupons, advertising and upsells. With multiple connectivity options – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPRS – and an illuminated, blue backlit keypad, the VX 680 is spill and drop resistant for optimum performance in the most demanding environments.

Moss adds, “Portable and robust, the VX 680 is particularly well suited for hospitality retailers such as bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.  With their high volume of sub-20 Euro transactions, these outlets are also perfect candidates for contactless roll-outs currently being supported by Visa, BBVA and Bankia across Madrid; and Visa and la Caixa in Barcelona.  For these trials to be successful consumer card issuance has to go hand in hand with wide scale availability of retail acceptance devices such as the VX 680.

“Another key advantage of the VX 680 is that it is NFC as well as contactless enabled. Helping merchants accept contactless cards today, it will provide a long-term return on investment by also allowing them to accept ‘wave and pay’ from NFC-capable mobile phones in the future.”
