The Mall Walthamstow has announced it is donating hundreds of bats and balls, as well as summer getaway books to Larkswood Primary School, Chingford helping to keep local school children entertained and active during the summer holidays.

The gesture is the latest community focused initiative from The Mall Walthamstow and is in-line with its Mall Cares programme. Mall Cares was developed to engage with and motivate shoppers, retailers and the centre management team to work together and raise money for local causes.

Alisdair Currie, General Manager at The Mall Walthamstow, commented: “We’re excited summer has finally arrived and are keen to help children make the most of the longer, balmier days. Our bat and ball sets will provide hours of fun and encourage children to play outdoors in the sunshine and we hope the books on great British days out will inspire children and their parents to visit different attractions across the country.”

Brendan Plunkett, Assistant Head Teacher at Larkswood Primary School, added:”Our pupils are thrilled with the thoughtful gifts The Mall Walthamstow has generously provided. We always encourage our pupils to take advantage of the sunshine and will urge them to pick up a bat and ball this summer. We may even have a future Freddie Flintoff in our midst. The books will no doubt also prove popular with a seemingly endless list of suggestions and ideas on fun days out and excursions.”

The Mall Walthamstow’s commitment to ‘giving back’ to Waltham Forest led to its recent partnership with Give More, a national giving campaign launched by the Pears Foundation. The Mall worked with Give More to encourage shoppers to make a public commitment to support worthy causes and secured a total of 153 pledges from big-hearted customers.
