THE MALL CHEQUERS RETAIL FACTOR COMPETITION OFFERS RISING STARS THE CHANCE TO SHINE

The Mall Chequers has announced the launch of its eighth annual Retail Factor competition. The competition provides small businesses, both start up and established, with the opportunity to trade rent free from a Mall for a three week period.  All businesses which don’t already have a permanent presence are invited to apply.

A panel of judges will assess the entrepreneurs on their commercial viability, originality, market appeal and development potential. Shortlisted finalists will be invited to pitch their idea in person.  The local winner will trade rent free for three weeks and will also be entered into a nationwide competition from the other Mall shopping centres for a chance to win a cash contribution towards stock and business mentoring from an industry entrepreneur.

A unique competition, Retail Factor gives small and start-up businesses the opportunity to grow their business, meet thousands of new customers face to face and build their brand.

Paul Alcock, General Manager of The Mall, said: “The Mall has always been very supportive of independent businesses. We currently have 21 independent traders at The Mall and we value the important role they play in the centre.

“Retail Factor is a great opportunity for small and start-up independent businesses without a physical presence to meet their customers face to face and take their business to a new level.”

Marlon Wolff, CEO of small business advice hub Ingenious Britain, which is the national partner on the The Retail Factor, says: “The largest numbers of businesses in the retail sector – 83% of them – employ less than ten people; that’s nearly a third of the retail workforce and around a fifth of total annual turnover of retail businesses.

“We know from our own Ingenious Britain online community that there are thousands of innovative and dynamic small retail businesses in the UK and initiatives like The Mall Fund provide a great opportunity for some of those businesses to reach a wider market. That’s why we’re on board supporting it.”

Business interested in applying should fill out a simple application form on themall.co.uk/retailfactor by 23 February 2013.
