Surface Design Show unveils inspirational line-up for PechaKucha on 8 Feb 2012

Surface Design Show’s PechaKucha evening will showcase lively presentations from some of the most influential and innovative architects and designers in the world.

Following the traditional PechaKucha format of showing 20 slides for 20 seconds each, the presenters will challenge and entertain the audience with a diverse selection of images and opinions.

Jo Harris from the University of Huddersfiled views materials as an intrinsic part of human development: “Material creativity has been the basic and most fundamental of our human instinct; to survive, to build, to advance our world”

Whilst Matthew Baker from Foster Wilson Architects considers the unexpected: ‘Materials used in their raw state are the most expressive, they are allowed to age and breathe and achieve a richness and a life of their own beyond the expectations of the designer.’

But Tim Hatton sees an almost Puckish deceipt: “There is no neutrality to any surface. Surfaces that the eye beholds are fears and dreams to the brain; illusion is everywhere”

Whatever their interest or discipline, SDS’s PechaKucha evening promises the audience a visual and intellectual feast.

The event also boasts: Vanessa Brady from SBID, Philip Handford from Campaign, Stuart Martin from WAM Associates, Phil Coffey from Coffey Architects, Scott Lawrie from All Design, George Saumarez Smith from ADAM Architecture, Bidisha Sinha from Zaha Hadid Architects and Stefano Manuelli from Jestico + Whiles.

Surface Design Show, home of innovative and inspirational surface solutions, runs from 7 – 9 February, 2012, at the Business Design Centre, London. The Pecha Kucha evening  takes place from 18:00 – 21:00 on Wednesday 8th February. Entry is free, just register at
