Surface Design Show today launched the Surface Design Awards 2016

Architects and designers from the UK and across the world are invited to enter their very best surface projects into the 2016 Surface Design Awards.

The Awards champion the best progressive design and use of innovative surfaces worldwide, and are believed to be the only awards to focus exclusively on surface design.

The fourteen Awards are divided into 7 categories with an interior and exterior surface for the majority. The Supreme Award is for the ‘best of the best’ from all the winners.

These international awards are open to clients, architects, interior designers and contractors who have completed projects using exterior and interior surface materials in new, innovative and creative ways. The projects must have been completed after 31st December 2013.

181 entries were received in 2015, a 62% increase on the previous year. A third of all entries were from projects located outside the UK. The 2015 Supreme Winner was Ospedale Giovanni XXIII Chapel in Bergamo, Italy designed by Traversi + Traversi Architetti & Aymeric Zublena.

Co-chairing the judging panel this year will be Sarah Featherstone of Featherstone Young architects and Theresa Dowling of FX magazine. They will be joined by: Andrew Waugh, Thistleton Architects; Anna Breheny, Scott Brownrigg Interior Design; Chris Jenkins, Peldon Rose; Diana Cochrane, M(Arch) at Kent School of Architecture; Natasha Bonugli, BDG architecture + design; Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton, Light Collective and Xavier Llarch Font, The Decorators

Sponsor of the Supreme Award is RAK Ceramics; Category Sponsors include Decolan and James Latham; Bottle Alley Glass will again be sponsoring the trophies.
