Surface Design Show 2014 introduces: Light School presented by Light Collective

The highly successful Surface Design Show returns to the Business Design Centre from the 4th to 6th February 2014 with a new focus on lighting.  At its heart will be Light School, presented by creative design duo Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton of Light Collective,

Light School is a series of inspirational talks and demonstrations that will change the way delegates think about light with fifteen of the top UK lighting designers presenting master classes for architects and interior designers over the course of the 3-day event.

The school programme kicks off on Tuesday 4 February with an introduction from Light Collective followed by a presentation by Mark Ridler of BDP Lighting who will examine how architecture can manipulate natural light to evoke a human response in a talk titled ‘Sun/Moon/Clouds: Aesthetics/Spirit/Culture’.  Sally Storey of Lighting Design International will close the first day of school leaving you ‘Inspired by Light’.

The following two day time-table is a focused look at the many aspects of lighting design – from technology, design, media surfaces, colour and product.  The classes include a presentation by Douglas James of Mindseye exploring the symbiotic relationship between light and surfaces, case studies by Michael Grubb of Michael Grubb Studio on how to develop a narrative that leads to a final lighting solution, a lesson on how to use light to reveal more than just a building by Jon Hodges of Jason Bruges Studio and a journey through ‘Light, Colour and Texture’ by Clementine Rodgers of the award winning Spiers and Major.

Finally, Product School will provide you with the opportunity to experience a selection of the very best lighting products in the market and a comprehensive review of lighting innovation and interesting technology which will leave your head buzzing with ideas of how to use light in your next project.

The Surface Design Show is the leading event for architects and interior designers to source new, cutting edge and inspiring interior and exterior surface solutions. The 2014 show will be the 11th edition of the event and with rapid changes in technology and the environment the show has never been so essential to contemporary architecture and design.
