Safety matting bridges the gap

The Raiffeisen Bank in Gossau, Switzerland is using Frontrunner XT matting to provide safe passage for pedestrians on three footbridges which link the car-park to the bank’s entrance. The original safety problem occurred when the steel bridges got cold very quickly which in turn made the walkway surface icy and slippery.

The 100% vinyl open grid matting is manufactured by Plastic Extruders Ltd and was specified by flooring specialist Wibatec. It is very effective for these types of tough external environments as its diamond cut surface provides increased traction and safety underfoot even in wet and icy conditions. The close grid construction also makes it heel and wheel-proof and it is flexible enough to contour over the curve of the bridge.

Frontrunner XT is supplied in rolls of 10m and in widths of 60, 91 and 120cm. It forms part of the popular Frontrunner Entrance Flooring System range which comprises several mats suitable for different interior and exterior installations. All mats in the range can be trimmed easily on site to fit any shape, such as within revolving doors or irregular shaped matwells. Other external options include Frontrunner Brush with nylon brush inserts to combat severe soiling and Frontrunner Brush Wide with an extra wide grid.
