Roadchef announces agreement with SPAR to introduce the brand’s latest convenience store format to its service areas

Roadchef, one of the UK’s largest motorway service area operators and SPAR, the UK’s leading convenience store group, have today announced an agreement to introduce SPAR stores as an additional offering to serve the 46m visitors who stop at Roadchef’s sites each year.

The agreement will launch with two test stores at Strensham on the M5 and Northampton on the M1 with the Strensham store opening at the beginning of July. It is anticipated that following a successful trial, the brand will be introduced to its major roadside locations within the next few years.

The SPAR stores will be to the brands latest design, with the format combining the great value proposition that SPAR is renowned for providing, with a number of more artisan offerings that will meet the increasing demand from motorists for a wider range of healthy, fresh produce at motorway service areas.

Simon Turl, CEO of Roadchef said: “We spent a great deal of time analysing a wide range of options available to us in the marketplace to best match what our customers have told us they require from a grocery store on the motorway. We chose the SPAR brand due to their industry-leading store design and presentation together with the strength of their distribution platform which gives us access to a huge range of products at great value prices.”

Debbie Robinson Managing Director of SPAR UK said “I am delighted with the opportunity to work with Roadchef and bring a fresh approach to motorway food retailing, with our exciting SPAR convenience offer. We are looking forward to showcasing our latest store concept on these two sites, which will include a bakery and our new Daily Deli foodservice offering; and to appealing to customers with our award-winning SPAR brand range.”
