Retailers raise over £50k at Retail Trust’s Great Northern Ball

The elite of Northern retail convened last month in Manchester for the Retail Trust Great Northern Ball and raised a massive £50,000 for Retail Trust, the only charity that looks after three million people in retail.

The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club saw high profile guests from N Brown Group, Matalan, Shop Direct Group, Deloitte, Liverpool One, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, Debenhams, BrightHouse, Manchester Airport Group, Ultimate Products, Timpson, World Duty Free and many more.

The silent auction raised over £10,000 with the prize of flights to Las Vegas going for £1,400. Other prizes included tickets to Man United vs. Man City going for £500 and a Harvey Nichols Cocktail Masterclass going for £625.

Guests feasted on an eclectic three course meal prepared by The Point’s Executive Head Chef Nic Ashurst and were then treated to Vegas-style entertainment with a cabaret and special performances from ‘Elvis’ and ‘Tom Jones’.

Nigel J L Rothband, Chief Executive Officer at Retail Trust says:

“The Great Northern Ball is the first Retail Trust event to take place since the recent rioting, which has highlighted the real need for our charity. Money raised tonight will help people in retail get access to counselling, emergency hardship grants and critical incident support, plus of course funds raised will benefit our retirement estates in Liverpool and Salford.”

Iain Mackenzie, General Manager of Harvey Nichols, and Chairman of the Northern Events Committee said:

“I was struck by the variety of attendees at the event; in these current financially uncertain times, it is important that all industries support one another economically and also show support of good causes like Retail Trust. “

Other businesses attending included Clipper Logistics Group, McArthurGlen, News International, Barclays Corporate, LS Travel Retail and SSP Air.
