Retail Trust & Vinspired Giving Retail Staff & Neets Chance To Shine

Retail Trust and Youth volunteering charity vInspired have teamed up to offer young people in England aged 16 – 25 the opportunity to take part in a new 12 week skills development and volunteering programme called Retail Ready People (RRP).

RRP will enlist young people who want to enter or progress in the retail sector and give them the chance to set up and run a high street pop-up in 10 high street locations across England between 2012 – 2014, with Brighton & Hove City and the London Borough of Enfield confirmed as the first two locations for 2012.

Retail Trust and vInspired are urging all retailers operating in Brighton and Enfield to invest in their employees by encouraging them to apply for the free programme at a time when a third of the retail industry is made up of 16-25 year olds.

Recruitment is now open to find 30 young volunteers per location, made up of retail staff and 16-25 year olds not in employment, education or training (NEET), who will take part in a series of training workshops before transforming empty shops into creative retail spaces at the heart of the community.

Nigel J L Rothband, Chief Executive of Retail Trust, says “Brighton and Enfield have a fantastic mix of young people and retailers. I would urge retailers big and small to show support for their employees’ development and get involved in Retail Ready People. Encourage your staff to apply, give them a chance to shine, gain new skills, confidence and the opportunity to bring those new found skills back to your business.

We’re also requesting landlords to donate an empty retail unit in Brighton and Enfield from 1 October -12 December 2012 to help the young people transform empty units into engaging and creative pop-up spaces which will engage the local community.”

Terry Ryall, CEO of vInspired explains, “vInspired, quite simply, gives young people the opportunity to do good things.  Retail Ready People will create important opportunities for unemployed young people to become Retail Ready and make a positive difference in local communities starting with the young people of Brighton and Enfield.”
