The Glasgow Hilton played host to Retail Trust’s Grand Scottish Ball last week. Despite horrific weather conditions over 300 people attended the event and raised over £100,000 for the charity dedicated to all those who work in the retail sector.

The night was attended by some of the biggest names retail with representatives from retailers; Matalan, House of Frasers, New Look, Harvey Nicols, and our sponsors Land Sec and more. For the second time in 3 years the Grand Scottish Ball faced cancelation due to adverse weather conditions however organisers and retailers rallied and the ball was given the go ahead.

Nicola Steele, Fundraising and Events Manager for Retail Trust, said, “Scottish retailers have shown up against all odds; the weather caused massive logistical and transport problems for many of our attendees. Our fantastic Schwing band had to drive up from England after train delays and our host for the evening, Mark Heyes, was forced to cancel due to weather – so a special thank you to John Amabile for coming to the rescue!”

The fantastic fundraiser included a dinner, live music and charity tombola. After speeches by John Amabile and Retail Trust’s CEO Richard Boland, guests were invited to donate funds to Retail Trust.gatsby

John Amabile, said, “It was a great honour to be asked to speak at the Grand Scottish Ball. More than 3 million people work in the retail industry – it’s the biggest employer in the private sector; a sector that’s often over-worked, under-paid and under-valued.”
“We’ve had a fantastic evening and raised an incredible amount for Retail Trust. I wish all those working in the retail sector a very Merry Christmas and fantastic 2014.”

Richard Boland, Chief Executive of Retail Trust praised the work of retailers across the UK and thanked the attendees for making the event despite the terrible conditions.Retail Trust Ball
Richard Boland, said “On behalf of Retail Trust I’d like to extend my warmest thanks to those who made it tonight and thank you wholeheartedly for your kind support. 2014 will be an exciting year for us; we’ll see an expansion in the reach and scope of our charity. This is only possible through your continued support and donations.”

The event raised over £100,000 for the retail charity which looks after the 3 million people who work in the retail sector throughout the UK, providing support, assistance and residential housing for those in need.
